Multimedia Designer

Working with the Multimedia Manager, the duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Leading design team on creative production ideation, and collaborating on mood boards and design elements for projects and campaigns
  • Acting as liaison with design team in absence of Multimedia Manager
  • Pitching creative ideas for design and social content
  • Assisting in moving design projects from concept development to delivery
  • Scheduling and coordinating dates with creative team where needed
  • Providing feedback to creative team on projects where needed
  • Providing technical support to lower-level design staff
  • Traveling throughout the state for live events, Commissioner coverage, and on-location shoots
  • Helping manage design and print shop inventory, monitoring team needs regarding equipment repairs and upgrades
  • Willing to support video production in the field (in rare circumstances); ability to assist in post-production where needed
  • Following best practices of information organization, navigation, and overall design structure
  • Researching hardware and software solutions to achieve desired results
  • Conducting testing of web-based applications or online program changes to improve usability of multimedia or websites
  • Identifying, analyzing, and proposing resolutions to issues on existing multimedia or websites
  • Ensuring the production of projects, organization and implementation of changes, and preparation for production or printing by outside vendors, including digital distribution
  • Serving as a resource for staff by communicating concepts and providing technical information on project status
  • Maintaining an electronic filing system for all completed projects

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, if they meet the below NY HELPS minimum qualifications.

NY HELPS Non-Competitive Minimum Qualifications:

  • Seven years of experience producing multimedia communication projects using elements of audiovisual production, or graphic design for web, or graphic design for print.
  • *Substitution - A bachelor's degree in video and/or TV and/or film production, web interface design, graphic design, communications design, or a closely related field may substitute for four years of experience.

It is expected that employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status in the future, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

  • One year of permanent or contingent-permanent as an Economic Development Assistant Publications Manager, Grade (23).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders
  • A high degree of creativity
  • Ability to keep up with the constantly and rapidly evolving technology trends
  • Expert-level knowledge of motion, digital design, typography, branding, print, including Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator), color correction, and basic photo retouching
