Solano County Library is a progressive and innovative library with community support across eight branches and virtual services. The Library serves Solano County with a staff of 111 FTE and operates within a growing community that values learning, culture, and public service.

THE POSITION

Librarians provide library services to the public to meet community needs; supervise and/or coordinate a library section; may be assigned to technical services such as cataloging, acquisitions, or collection development, or adult, children’s, or young adult services; perform collection development and maintenance, programming, reference, public relations, and administrative tasks.

The current Librarian vacancy is at the Suisun City Library.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The County seeks Librarians who are passionate about providing services to children, teens, and adults using traditional and forward-thinking approaches. The ability to work with individuals and communities of diverse backgrounds and develop successful partnerships with outside agencies are desirable skills for all top candidates. Additionally, candidates should be flexible and adaptable to competing demands on their time and adept at working with library users of all ages. Preference may be given to English-Spanish bilingual candidates.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Experience: One year of professional library experience.

Education/Training: Possession of a Master’s degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university is required. Please see document submittal requirements.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver’s license may be required for some positions.
  • Some positions allocated to this class may require bilingual skills.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

  • Independent travel may be required.

The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur or the need arises.

SELECTION PROCESS

Based on information provided in the application documents, qualified applicants may be invited for further examination and will be pre-scheduled or invited to self-schedule. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement. Depending on the number of applications, the process may include an initial screening, mandatory information meeting, supplemental questionnaire assessment, written or practical exam, an oral board exam, or any combination. Responses to supplemental questions may be used as screening and testing mechanisms. Information does not constitute a contract. A minimum score of 70% is required to continue in the process, unless otherwise announced. All potential hires or promotions will be subject to background and reference checks after a contingent offer. Retiree hiring restrictions may apply per Government Code.
