Job Posting Title: Faculty, Integrated Reading and Writing
Job Description Summary:
Integrated Reading and Writing (INRW) is part of the Composition and Literary Studies (CLS) Department. We offer on-campus and online courses across all ACC campuses. This position begins August 2026. The faculty role includes online and in-person instruction of stand-alone and corequisite courses in which INRW classes are taught in coordination with college-level classes.
Job Description:
Principal Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepare and teach courses in Integrated Reading and Writing to a multicultural student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes, using instructional strategies appropriate to community college students and the discipline.
- Participate actively in departmental responsibilities and governance, including curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program level, and other departmental activities.
- Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback aligning with program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
- Mentor students in INRW.
- Provide teaching and mentoring services without discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
- Remain current in the field through professional development activities.
- Support division and department goals through active and collegial engagement in decision-making and unit-level planning.
- Serve on collegewide and departmental committees, councils, work groups, and task forces.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, or senior leadership.
Technology
- Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
- Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system (e.g., Blackboard) to develop and deliver course content and perform administrative duties.
Principal Professional Standards
- Appropriate use of the college's learning management system.
- Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.
- Participate in graduation, general assembly, and other official college functions.
- Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.
- Attend and participate in collegewide, campus, department, or other activities and meetings.
- Demonstrate civility and collegiality in all interactions.
- Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.
Required Minimum Education
In accordance with SACSCOC requirements. SACSCOC requirements may differ depending on the courses taught within the discipline.
- Bachelor's degree in Reading, Writing, English, Language Arts, or Curriculum and Instruction with at least three graduate hours of Reading, three graduate hours of Writing, and three graduate hours in an appropriate education course focused on adult learners or development of pre-college students, with experience teaching integrated reading and writing at the pre-college level.
Preferred Education
- Master's degree in Reading or Developmental Education or Literacy; or
- Master's Degree with 18 hours of Reading, Writing, or a combination or an MA in English with 3 hours of Reading and 3 hours of Writing.
