Job Summary

Instruct graduate and undergraduate courses and support the department, college, and university goals by supporting the academic environment to benefit the educational mission of the University. The candidate will contribute to the department's educational mission and instruct students in Library Media/School Librarianship.

The faculty member should demonstrate:

  1. An understanding of the principles associated with teaching and learning in Library Media/School Librarianship.
  2. Significant and successful experience working with teachers and students in a public-school setting.
  3. Strong communication skills and successful higher education teaching experience.
  4. A developing research agenda relevant to Library Media/School Librarianship.

The faculty member should demonstrate the ability to work collegially with others.

Responsibilities

Teaching/Instructing

  • Maintain a full-time instructional load teaching in areas of expertise within the academic discipline, specifically Library Media, School Librarianship, and related areas (e.g., information literacy, collection development, library management, technology integration in schools).
  • Teach a 4-4 course load each Fall and Spring semester.
  • Teach courses face-to-face on campus and in an online environment; regularly come to campus to establish an on-campus presence.
  • Mentor students.
  • Convey current philosophies, practices, and theories of Library Media/School Librarianship and related fields.
  • Contribute to the core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses as needed.

Professional Development

  • Conduct research and develop within the profession focusing on Library Media/School Librarianship.
  • Academic achievement includes publications, presentations at professional meetings, peer-reviewed scholarship, current work in progress, grants, and professional service.

Service to Institution

  • Support the advancement of the department, college, and university mission through service at the department, college, university, community, and disciplinary levels.
  • Committee membership and leadership, student advising, and participation in programs/projects.

Public Service

  • Possible activities include continuing education for Education Professionals, participation in community organizations, and consulting work.

Other duties and responsibilities

  • All faculty share responsibility for teaching core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike.

Required Qualifications

  • Educational Requirements
    • A Ph.D. (terminal degree) or Ed.D. in Library Media, School Librarianship, or a closely related field from an accredited institution is required before the effective date of employment.
    • Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org) (faculty credentials).
  • Other Required Qualifications
    • Ability to advise and supervise graduate students in Library Media programs, collect program data for university, state, and national compliance, and facilitate program recruitment.
    • The successful candidate will be assigned teaching responsibilities primarily in Library Media/School Librarianship, an online graduate program, but may be asked to teach on campus in a face-to-face environment.
    • An active scholarship program focused on Library Media/School Librarianship is required, along with campus and community service.
  • Required Experience
    • Minimum of 3 years experience as a School Librarian, School Library Media Center Specialist, or related role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher education teaching experience in Library Media or School Librarianship.
  • Experience in online instructional design and online teaching relevant to library media content.
  • Evidence of methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies.
  • Willingness and expertise to teach in related areas like Instructional Technology.
  • Value research collaboration with candidates.
