Job Description
Candidates should live within driving distance of the following areas: Wichita, KS; Lawton, OK; or Round Rock, TX.
Job Purpose/Summary
We are seeking a UI/UX Design professional to support both production software development and research and development (R&D) initiatives. This role requires the ability to create intuitive, user-centered interfaces for web and mobile applications as well as emerging technologies. The ideal candidate will be able to balance creativity with product requirements, end-user needs, and system constraints to ensure designs are both innovative and feasible. They must apply design best practices to deliver scalable solutions across SaaS platforms, prototypes, and experimental systems, and be capable of producing high-fidelity, implementation-ready designs that allow for smooth handoff and integration with engineering teams.
This position involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams including product managers, software engineers, researchers, and end users in industries such as defense, law enforcement, and commercial sectors. The designer will actively contribute to and maintain company-wide design libraries, systems, and standards, while also shaping design strategy, conducting user research, and driving iterative refinement to ensure effective, consistent, and impactful user experiences.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design user-friendly interfaces for both production software and experimental prototypes.
- Apply user-centered design (UCD) principles to develop workflows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity, implementation-ready UI designs.
- Create, contribute to, and maintain scalable design systems, component libraries, and company-wide visual standards.
- Facilitate user feedback sessions and incorporate insights into design iterations.
- Support user research (e.g., interviews, usability studies, field testing) to understand end-user needs and behaviors.
- Ensure designs balance product requirements, user needs, and engineering feasibility while aligning with brand identity, accessibility standards, and industry best practices.
- Partner with engineers to ensure design feasibility, consistency, and seamless integration into system architectures.
- Prepare design-related deliverables, including reports, presentations, and demonstrations for stakeholders as needed.
- Stay current with UI/UX industry standards, best practices, and emerging technologies, including AI tools, to continuously improve design quality and efficiency.
- Maintain awareness of the evolving domains and operational contexts in which products are deployed, ensuring designs remain relevant, practical, and impactful for end users.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Human Factors, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Industrial Design, Psychology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience designing for web and mobile applications; exposure to experimental or novel interface domains (e.g., AR/VR, data visualization, geospatial interfaces) is a plus.
- Proficiency with design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or equivalent.
- Ability to create interactive prototypes and high-fidelity, engineering-ready deliverables using industry-standard tools.
- Strong visual design skills with attention to typography, layout, and aesthetics.
- Familiarity with project/task management tools (e.g., Jira).
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, including the ability to present and explain design decisions to diverse stakeholders.
- Experience supporting user research and incorporating insights from a variety of sources (e.g., user research reports, customer feedback, ad-hoc user input) into design decisions.
- Enthusiasm for learning new technical domains and applying knowledge to design solutions.
- Knowledge of responsive design, accessibility guidelines, and front-end development principles.
- (Preferred) Experience with government, defense, or other regulated industries.
