Hiring Range: $25 per hour

The Shrewsbury Public Library, a cornerstone of civic life in our thriving community of over 38,000 residents, is seeking a Part-Time Library Assistant - Technology & Makerspace to play a key role in advancing our digital services and 21st-century learning initiatives. Reporting to the Head of Adult Services, this is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives at the intersection of technology and public service, and who is eager to help shape the future of library services in Shrewsbury. This is a part-time, temporary position for one year from the date of hire, with a salary of $25/hour.

The schedule for this position is Monday, 4:30-9:00, Wednesday, 4:30-9:00, and Saturday, 1:00-4:00, with some flexibility for the right candidate.

More than just a place to borrow books, the Shrewsbury Public Library is a dynamic and inclusive space where innovation, connection, and lifelong learning are at the forefront. As our Technology and Makerspace Assistant, you'll collaborate closely with a talented and supportive team, including the Technology Specialist and Digital Services Librarian, to provide outstanding public technology support and digital literacy services. You'll also be responsible for monitoring the library's makerspace and assisting patrons with a variety of equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the makerspace and provide training to patrons on using equipment.
  • Provide assistance in ensuring the safety of patrons when using equipment, and assist the Technology Specialist in maintaining makerspace equipment.
  • Assist the Digital Services Librarian and Technology Specialist in ensuring the library’s website remains current, accessible, and user-friendly.
  • Under the guidance of the Digital Services Librarian, provide technology support to patrons.
  • Assist with the deployment of new computers, installation of new software, and maintenance of equipment and systems.

What You Bring

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field strongly preferred
  • At least two years of experience and skills in technology systems and equipment
  • Experience with website management and basic knowledge of web design
  • Strong understanding of professional library principles preferred
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • A commitment to customer service excellence and the ability to work with people of all ages and abilities.
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, and a collaborative mindset to match our high-energy team.
