Manager of Production Services (Audio Visual)

The Production Services Manager is part of the Jack B. Kelley (JBK) Student Center management team and reports to the Assistant Director of the JBK. The Manager serves as the department’s technical expert for audio-visual, event safety and security, and technical equipment maintenance in the JBK, Alumni Banquet Facility, JA Hill Chapel, Buffalo Stadium, First United Bank Center, any event contracting with Production Services, and other university facilities as needed. The Manager will liaise with other campus units and community organizations to support the mission of the University, Division of Student Affairs, and the Jack B. Kelley Student Center.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Production Services and the student A/V Technician staff.
  • Act as the department’s technical expert for audio-visual, event safety and security, and equipment maintenance across assigned venues.
  • Assist throughout the entire event process with regard to Production Services – planning, setup, operation, and strike.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate all Production Services staff.
  • Prioritize, organize, and schedule work assignments and projects.
  • Serve as the audio-visual technician for large campus events or where technical expertise is needed.
  • Assist with reservations from members of the campus community and community groups for Production Services.
  • Contribute to effective team management of department issues and opportunities.
  • Produce, record, direct, publish, and edit promotional, commercial, and news videos.
  • Support development and production of visualization projects and provide technical recommendations.
  • Set up and operate cameras, lighting, microphones, and other field production equipment.
  • Perform video post-production tasks including logging footage, creating rough cuts, and final versions of video clips.
  • Conceptualize and coordinate content and design services.
  • Serve as a liaison to University divisions, departments, and community organizations for large campus-wide events (e.g., Buff Branding, Homecoming, Graduation).
  • Maintain 100% compliance with timely completion of required System, University, and job-specific online training courses.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications

  • Four (4) years of experience with intermediate knowledge in stage lighting, live sound, video, and/or digital signage.
  • Intermediate knowledge of electrical, electronic, and rigging standards and practices.
  • Advanced computer troubleshooting experience and ability to solve technology issues.
  • Proven team player with collaborative leadership.
  • Excellent customer service skills and strong interpersonal abilities with campus and community constituents.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple projects.
  • Ability to lift and carry items usually exceeding 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work beyond normal hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience delivering educational and social programming on a college campus.
  • Experience in live entertainment production environments.
  • Knowledge of non-linear audio, video, and lighting control systems; familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Large Crowd Management certification.
  • First Aid / CPR / AED certification.
  • Aerial Lift certification.
  • Experience with campus-wide scheduling software.
