Overview
Executive Audio Producer at Colorado Public Radio (CPR) — lead the on-demand audio team at CPR News. Core products include Colorado Today (daily news podcast), Colorado in Depth (documentary podcast), and Purplish (a politics podcast created with CPR’s public affairs reporting team). The team also supports other podcast products in the newsroom, including Colorado Matters. This role involves managing production schedules, coordinating with editors, and guiding editorial and post-production processes.
Responsibilities
- Manage production schedules for daily and longer-term podcasts by coordinating with editors across the newsroom.
- Assign producers and hosts; oversee editing and script writing; produce interviews in-studio and occasionally in the field; oversee post-production.
- Advocate for news audio projects within CPR; present to staff and board members; contribute to newsroom training.
- Represent CPR at events to promote podcasts and help set digital audio strategy.
- Rally others to support CPR digital audio creation and collaborate on setting strategic direction.

You are an avid podcast listener with hands-on audio production and editing experience. You are adaptable, capable of both hands-on work and providing leadership and vision. You are skilled at designing news products for audiences, managing show calendars, and planning ahead to deliver high-quality results.
Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience including developing audio project strategy, production, editorial judgment, and daily news.
- A minimum of 3 - 4 years of team leadership and management experience.
- Ability to manage staff with diverse backgrounds, skills, and working styles.
- Experience leading the full creative and production process from story selection and guest booking to scripting, recording, editing, and coordinating with producers, editors, and journalists, resulting in high-quality long-form journalism.
- Proven track record in strategically designing audio projects with audience development in mind.
- Strong understanding of digital audio’s role in today’s media landscape, with familiarity in news podcast formats and trends.
- Aware of issues facing Coloradans and committed to serving local audiences.
- Comfort working collaboratively in a daily news environment where roles and priorities may change quickly, especially during breaking news.
Education Equivalency
A fully relatable bachelor’s or master’s degree may replace some of the required years of experience needed to qualify for the position, but is not required for the role.
