Director of Business Development & Marketing – Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Oakland

Burke, Williams & Sorensen, LLP is seeking a Director of Business Development and Marketing to join its offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Oakland. The role leads business development, branding, and marketing across Burke’s legal practices, including Litigation, Labor and Employment, and Public Law. Location: Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Oakland. This is a full-time, exempt position with a hybrid arrangement (two days on-site and three days from home each week). This arrangement may change based on business needs. Reporting to the Firm’s Managing Partner. Responsibilities Business Development and Client Growth: Coach and support attorneys in building client relationships, preparing pitches, proposals, and presentations. Manage feedback programs, referral pipelines, and cross-selling efforts. Conduct market, industry, and competitive research to identify growth opportunities. Practice Group Support: Work with Practice Chairs to assess and develop business development and marketing needs aligned with the group’s strategic plan. Individual Partner Support: Meet with partners to develop and implement curated business plans; monitor and support opportunities and target strategies. Lateral Integration: Collaborate with Firm management to create onboarding plans for lateral partners, including integrating their client base into the Firm. Branding and Messaging: Develop and maintain sales materials, pitches, and proposals; lead high-profile RFPs and raise the Firm’s market profile. Oversee brand strategy, messaging, and external communications; ensure consistency across platforms and collateral. Event Management: Plan and execute events, sponsorships, speaking engagements, and related follow-up lead tracking and ROI measurement. Tracking and Reporting: Develop approaches to measure the impact of business development and marketing efforts; lead internal analysis and market research. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree required (Marketing, Communications, Business or related field preferred). 7–10 years of progressively responsible business development and marketing experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services setting. Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to craft concise, compelling content. Proven success in developing and executing strategic business development initiatives. Technology proficiency: data collection, CRM tools, research databases; CMS and digital marketing tools. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking abilities; ability to work under pressure. Customer service orientation with strong interpersonal skills; ability to work with attorneys, clients, and professionals. Ability to work independently and collaboratively; strong teamwork and initiative. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat. Compensation Salary range: $230,000–$255,000 plus annual bonuses. Actual salary based on experience and qualifications.
