Brown University Athletics is seeking candidates for multiple Athletics Public Address Announcer positions. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-DI).

Responsibilities

  • The public address announcer is responsible for informing everyone in attendance at an athletic contest of all pertinent information occurring during the event.
  • Make commercial reads throughout the game or event.
  • Ability to articulate clearly, project to a large crowd, and read announcements in a timely fashion.
  • Know the event, its rules, and the appropriate time to announce; collect starters from coaching staffs prior to the game and proof the script for accuracy as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of a given sports rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to learn, specific game protocol as it pertains to Ivy League and NCAA rules.
  • During events, may interact with assigned game officials, Athletic Communications staff, Event Management staff, and Marketing and Promotions staff.
  • Must be able to observe and react to events on the field/court/venue to accurately announce information.
  • Must have an excellent speaking voice and the ability to project, enunciate, and read announcements in a timely fashion.
  • Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Background Check - Criminal, Education. All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a background check and education verification satisfactory to Brown.
