Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Web Content Assistant position for the Extension and Engagement Communications and Marketing team at Oregon State University ( OSU ).

This position will provide website content support as part of the OSU Extension and Engagement Communications and Marketing team.

Position Duties

75% OSU Extension website content support/maintenance:

Support digital-first publishing of Extension educational content by entering text and images into the OSU Extension content management system (website).

Proof resulting online and print-friendly layouts and adjust content formatting as needed.

Manually convert web resources into new content types (e.g., from Word, PPT, PDF or webinar recording to article, from basic to advanced layout) and/or fill in additional metadata as part of ongoing content maintenance, accessibility updates and content migrations between web-based platforms.

Assist with other web-based content tasks as assigned, such as double-checking content formatting, using reports to check for and fix broken links, making edits and correcting misspellings or other errors and inconsistencies. Learn and follow best practices for web accessibility.

Use systems to track assigned tasks and projects to show progress and completion.

Communicate and work effectively by checking in to troubleshoot issues, asking clarifying questions and incorporating suggested improvements into future tasks.

Effectively learn and use a content management system, digital asset management system and related software tools to complete tasks. Use technology to improve efficiency and productivity.

Support the unit’s digital image management system/Extension website integration by accurately entering, checking and filling in necessary metadata.

Assist in reducing duplicate images and potential copyright and accessibility issues by researching and adding missing information such as photo credits or alternative text to images. Adjust image sizes to optimize website.

5% Communication and Leadership

5% Other duties/projects as assigned

May be assigned additional duties/projects related to web content support/maintenance.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work and switch tasks with efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn how to use new software quickly.
  • Experience working and collaborating within a team environment.
  • Experience with software tools such as word processing, spreadsheets, email, videoconferencing and file sharing.
  • A commitment to collaborative and respectful learning and working environments that are safe, inclusive and welcoming.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

  • Completed at least one academic year of college.
  • Experience with managing content on websites.
