JOB SUMMARY

This is a skilled position involving the operation and care of Sewer Department's video inspection and locating equipment which includes the minicam mainline inspection unit and our manual cameras and locating systems.

Work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the camera inspection equipment used for evaluating the City's collection system. The collection system includes 313 miles of storm, sanitary, and combined sewers.

Operation of assigned equipment is the predominant task, but other equipment and manual work as needed may be performed. Assignments are usually received in the form of specific orders to accomplish a particular task. Work is reviewed through observation and evaluation of results.

Illustrative Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operates a Minicam mainline inspection unit.
  • Operates manual "push style" camera systems.
  • Operates a variety of locating equipment and tools.
  • Records and stores the mainline sewer and storm video footage utilizing the provided reporting software.
  • Records and stores the manual camera footage utilizing the provided software.
  • Performs dye testing to confirm sewer leads and other connections.
  • Works with contractors and residents to identify tap and lead locations.
  • Codes video footage utilizing the industry standard Pipeline Assessment Certification Program (PACP), Lateral Assessment Certification Program (LACP), and Manhole Assessment Certification Program (MACP) methods for coding.
  • Operates other related sewer department equipment when necessary.
  • Makes independent judgments related to work practices, techniques, and project delivery.
  • Changes various attachments on equipment and makes field adjustments, lubricate, fuels and cleans equipment as needed.

  • Must be willing and able to be on call during the regular work week, including weekends, and report for work after hours if needed.
  • Performs the duties of "Senior Maintenance Worker" as needed.
  • Performs the duties of "General Maintenance Equipment Operator" as needed.
  • Works with and assist Bay City Wastewater Treatment Plant staff when needed.
  • Performs job duties with proper safety work methods and procedures.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess a valid State of Michigan driver's license with a CDL "B" endorsement.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience and knowledge of a mainline camera system is preferred.
  • Must currently hold certifications in Pipeline Assessment Certification Program (PACP), Lateral Assessment Certification Program (LACP), and Manhole Assessment Certification Program (MACP).
  • A valid State of Michigan Industrial Storm Water Operator Certification is required.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of Pipe Logic, Pro Pipe, Microsoft, Rigid, Cues, City Works and other related software.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary for the safe operation of assigned equipment.
  • Ability to understand and develop maps/drawings/blueprints/GIS mapping of sewer infrastructure.
  • Ability to make operating adjustments and to recognize operating deficiencies in assigned equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, and the public.
  • Serves on the Sewer Department's stand-by list.
  • Must maintain licenses and certifications to retain position.
  • Must have and always wear protective footwear (steel -toe or equivalent) per MIOSHA regulations.
  • Footwear must also meet federal (ANSI 241.1) standards.
