Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Aide - Medical Surgical (3 North) - Full Time, Days (7AM - 7PM, Alternating Days).

In this role, under the supervision of the registered nurse, you will perform routine service duties and basic nursing procedures to provide for the care, comfort and safety of patients. You will maintain patient and service rooms in a clean and orderly condition, assist with room and equipment preparation for diagnostic procedures, and participate in the orientation process of new employees.

Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver basic nursing care to meet the care and comfort needs of patients.
  • Respond promptly to patient call lights and relay information to appropriate nursing personnel.
  • Observe patients and report any reaction or change in condition to the nurse in a timely manner.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (nutrition, ambulation, personal hygiene, toileting).
  • Adapt care delivery to meet individual patient needs.
  • Provide direct nursing care by performing tasks such as vital signs/weight checks, baths, skin care, Foley catheter care, enemas and specimen collection in accordance with policy/procedure.
  • Demonstrate proper turning, positioning and transferring techniques; distribute nourishment and assist with feeding as indicated.
  • Record food/fluid intake and monitor patient consumption using appropriate documentation tools.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organized patient environment and prepare equipment for Central Service.
  • Identify patients prior to care delivery and recognize safety hazards; complete regular patient rounds to monitor safety.
  • Utilize proper body mechanics during transfers or lifting of patients or equipment; comply with Falls Prevention Program.
  • M aintain flexibility to respond to workload and assist other units as required; complete errands as requested.
  • Interact effectively with staff and collaborate with management to improve the environment of care for patients, families and personnel.
  • Engage with Nurse Manager and Nursing Administrative Supervisor to address issues; participate in evaluating the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices.
  • Attend and participate in educational programs to maintain competence; comply with staff meeting attendance requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certificate from an approved Nurse Aide training program (or nursing student who has completed a Nursing Fundamentals course); BLS certification; de-escalation and first aid training
  • Ability to read and write at an elementary level to understand the patient’s plan of care and record data
  • Ability to perform simple arithmetic for weighing, vital signs and intake/output
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with patients and families; sensitivity to cultural diversity
  • Basic analytical skills to gather data, interpret and report outcomes
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; excellent customer service skills

Salary range: $44,850.00 - $44,850.00 annually. Actual salary depends on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits. For pay transparency notice, click here.
