Overview

Our government client is seeking an experienced UI/UX Designer on a hybrid 12 months renewable contract opportunity in Austin, TX.

Role: UI/UX Designer

Responsibilities

  • Lead user research initiatives and journey mapping to gain deep insights into user interactions and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies in accordance with established accessibility guidelines and branding standards.
  • Collaborate with Code for America and cross-functional teams to apply industry best practices in UI/UX design.
  • Engage in discovery workshops, feedback sessions, and sprint planning to ensure that design decisions are aligned with business objectives.
  • Employ a comprehensive suite of tools including Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, and Hotjar and implement usability testing, responsive design, and SEO optimization strategies.
  • Experience with AI/ML Interfaces: design user interfaces for systems that incorporate Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning, with a focus on explainable AI (XAI) and human-AI interaction principles.
  • Complex System Design: understand and design for complex business logic and regulatory requirements, particularly in domains like government services, healthcare, or finance.
  • Data Visualization: present complex data and AI insights in a clear, concise, and understandable visual format.
  • Empathy and User Advocacy: demonstrate a deep commitment to understanding user needs and advocating for user-centered design principles.
  • Collaboration & Communication: excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present design solutions to stakeholders.
  • Understanding of Accessibility Standards: knowledge of WCAG and other accessibility guidelines to ensure inclusive design.
  • Bonus: Experience with eligibility determination systems or similar rule-based, data-intensive applications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirements: Candidates that do not meet or exceed the minimum stated requirements (skills/experience) will be displayed to customers but may not be chosen for this opportunity.
  • 4 years of hands-on experience designing user interfaces and experiences for enterprise systems, including wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies using tools like Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch.
  • 4 years of demonstrated ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams, translating business needs into intuitive design solutions that align with accessibility and branding standards.
  • 4 years of experience applying UX design principles such as hierarchy, contrast, and alignment to create responsive and accessible web and mobile interfaces.
  • 4 years of experience creating wireframes and prototypes that support agile development cycles, including sketch-to-visual fidelity transitions.
  • 5 years (Preferred) experience designing graphical diagrams and visual narratives to communicate timelines, workflows, and system architecture.
  • 3 years (Preferred) demonstrated ability to facilitate design workshops and feedback sessions with stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs.
  • 3 years (Preferred) Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • 3 years (Preferred) Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple design streams across concurrent work effort.
