Overview

Social Media Coordinator at Inside Higher Ed (Georgia State University, Public Relations and Marketing Communications). The role focuses on telling the GSU story across platforms, creating content that captures campus life energy, and highlighting the university’s impact, visibility, and engagement.

Working with partners across the university, Public Relations and Marketing Communications develops strategies and implements plans and initiatives that foster open and honest communication to build credibility and support for the university.

Responsibilities

  • Create, schedule and publish engaging content across multiple platforms.
  • Develop fresh, creative campaigns that highlight student life, university news and GSU’s role in the heart of Atlanta.
  • Translate trends into Panther-approved content and stay on top of social media developments.
  • Attend GSU events for live coverage on social media.
  • Collaborate with student assistants to create authentic, student-focused content.
  • Write sharp, on-brand copy that informs, inspires and sometimes entertains.
  • Collaborate with departments, colleges and student groups to amplify their stories.
  • Monitor comments and messages to keep the digital community engaged and well-informed; respond to customer service inquiries on social media.
  • Track performance metrics and share insights to guide future content.

Qualifications

  • A creative self-starter who thrives on collaboration.
  • Strong storytelling skills across formats (e.g., 15-second clips, photo carousels, witty posts).
  • Video editing and graphic design know-how (Canva is a plus).
  • Love of social media trends and ability to fit them to GSU’s brand.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and four years of related experience; or a high school or GED and eight years of related experience; or a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Requirements

Two years of experience with social media campaigns or media relations; use of analytics and dashboards (Hootsuite preferred); experience using multiple social media platforms; knowledge of higher education and Georgia State.
