Job Description

The Department of English at Hope College invites applications for an Assistant Professor of English Instruction to begin in the Academic Year of 2026-2027. This is a renewable position.

Description:

Successful candidates will have experience teaching first-year writing and multi-genre introductory creative writing. Faculty are responsible for 24 workload hours per year, all teaching. No research or creative activity is required. The typical teaching load is four, three-credit courses per semester. This will include first-year writing and multi-genre introductory creative writing. Preference will be given to those with a strong record of teaching experience in both these arenas.

Additional duties will include academic advising and supporting students in a thriving program, and participation in faculty governance within and outside the department.

Qualifications

The position requires an MFA or PhD in creative writing (open genre) with substantial teaching experience in first-year writing. Candidates should have evidence of outstanding college-level teaching and adequate creative writing publication.
