Job Summary/Basic Function

WSU Marketing & Communications is seeking a motivated, well-organized individual to plan, research, gather, write, edit, organize and post web content (text, photos, video) to engage current and prospective students for the Academic Affairs division. Position will include:

  • Working independently or with web developers to build or update websites or pages
  • Performing regular content updates
  • Creating new features to engage prospective and current students
  • Assisting and advising users of the university web content management system
  • Staying on top of web trends and best practices while upholding university branding and website standards
  • Using web analytics to understand and help improve user experience
  • Other writing/editing duties within Marketing & Communications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, English, journalism, electronic media or related field of study.
  • Two (2) years experience in web content, online journalism or professional social media roles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using a content management system (CMS) or other web development tools
  • Strong copy writing and editing skills with an excellent understanding of grammar, punctuation and information organization
  • News reporting and/or information-gathering skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, ability to contribute to a team effort
  • Knowledge of The Associated Press Stylebook

A successful candidate is willing to learn

  • Web analytics to understand and improve user experience
  • The basics of web coding languages like HTML
  • Social media account management
  • Basic Photoshop skills

The annual salary for this position starts at $50,000 and may go up from there depending on candidate qualifications.
