Overview
Provides installation, service, maintenance, and removal of two-way radio communications systems (mobile and infrastructure related). Provides technical support to Installations Bay team as well as Systems Analysts in the troubleshooting, repair and maintenance support of overall county public safety communications infrastructure (currently 800 MHz trunking system, utilities monitoring systems, tower maintenance, etc.). Duties also include on-call duties on a schedule as well as overseeing special radio communications installations projects (at fire stations, schools, etc.). Perform other work as required.
Responsibilities
- Install, service, maintain, and remove two-way radio communications systems (mobile and infrastructure related).
- Provide technical support to Installations Bay team and Systems Analysts in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of county public safety communications infrastructure (800 MHz trunking system, utilities monitoring systems, tower maintenance, etc.).
- On-call duties on a schedule.
- Oversee special radio communications installations projects (at fire stations, schools, etc.).
- Perform other work as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; minimum four years of experience in communication-electronics career field or comparable certification or training working with mobile two-way radio communications systems; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Ability to distinguish between various colored wires; ability to understand and operate hand/power tools and electronic test & measurement equipment (wattmeter, service monitor, multimeter, etc.).
- Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, internet searching, etc.).
- FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL Elements 1 & 3) and system troubleshooting, project planning, and team leadership skills desired.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work including standing for prolonged periods, squatting, stooping, bending, twisting, stretching, crawling, reaching overhead, climbing ladders, working from step ladders, and working in awkward positions.
- Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. DMV record checks as specified by Virginia DMV point system.
- Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
- Position subject to CJIS Security Policy; requires passing a more stringent criminal background check.
