Overview

Associate Professor/ Professor and Department Chair, Communication Sciences and Disorders — North Carolina A&T State University. The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) within the Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences seeks a department Chair. This is a 12-month, on-site position reporting to the Dean and serving as the chief administrative and academic leader of the department. The Chair will provide visionary leadership for innovative programs with an educator-researcher emphasis and oversee strategic planning, budget development and allocation, recruitment and retention of faculty and students, curriculum management and improvement, faculty performance evaluations, program assessments and accreditation activities, fundraising, and collaboration with other departments and university leaders to advance the department’s goals. The Chair will implement strategies to increase recruitment, retention, and graduation rates and will work with faculty to develop research infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD).
  • Lead strategic planning, budget development and allocation, and resource management.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop faculty, staff, and students; oversee curricula and program assessments and reviews.
  • Evaluate faculty performance and support professional development.
  • Obtain and maintain accreditation; engage in fundraising and external relations.
  • Represent the department to other university units and leaders; collaborate to advance department goals.
  • Increase recruitment, retention, and graduation rates across all degree programs; help develop research infrastructure.

Minimum Requirements

  • A PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Speech and Language Pathology, Health Communication, or a closely related field with a substantial research track record aligned with appointment at the associate or full professor rank.
  • Prior teaching experience at baccalaureate and/or graduate levels.
  • Three years of teaching and research experience at a comparable institution.
  • Three years of experience in academic administration.
  • Ability to establish and sustain a strong research enterprise and pedagogical skills in areas such as healthcare economics, healthcare finance, data analytics, healthcare quality and patient safety, and health information management.
