Overview

LIBRARIAN: Adjunct / Substitute Instructor POOL (college credit) – San Diego Community College District (Inside Higher Ed posting).

Posting details include a continuous adjunct pool for our three college campuses (City, Mesa, Miramar) and continuing education centers. Applications are kept for potential assignments in fall, spring, and/or summer semesters; notice of openings will be sent directly to qualified applicants. Positions are part-time/substitute and within a district-wide assignment structure.

Major Responsibilities

• In accordance with the needs of the library department, primary duties may include providing reference, collection development, instructional workshops, technical services, cataloging, electronic resource management, online services, and/or outreach to students, faculty, and classified professionals in a variety of modalities.
• For part-time faculty hired to teach for-credit courses, duties also include providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines. The teaching assignment is divided between lecture and lab classes as determined by the department. Part-time instructional faculty are required to be available to students outside of class.
• Attend and participate in department, campus, and district meetings as necessary; participate in the development and implementation of library policies and procedures.
• Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
• Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member.
• Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions.
• Master's degree in Library Science, or Library and Information Science (American Library Association-accredited); OR,
• Possession of a California Community College Librarian Credential (valid for life); OR,
• The equivalent.

Licenses

• California Community College Librarian Credential (valid for life) if possessed.

Desired Qualifications

• Equivalency: If you do not possess the exact degrees listed above or anticipate receiving the required degree prior to the start of teaching classes, please complete a "Request for Equivalency Form" and attach it during the application process.
• Foreign Degree: Applicants with foreign degrees must have coursework evaluated by a NACES/ACEI member organization; a copy of the evaluation must be submitted with the online application.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity: All applicants must show cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds of students, faculty, and staff.

Pay Information

At the time of offer, proper salary placement depends on official transcripts and verifications of previous work experience (if applicable). Initial placement will be at the first class/step until all required documentation is submitted. See the current salary schedule for details.
