Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise the work of Library Media and Textbook Services personnel to ensure functions are completed efficiently and effectively. Mediate and resolve personnel issues in Library Media and Textbook Services.
- Monitor and supervise the administration of the district-wide Follett Library and Textbook website. Enter title records into Textbook Manager. Update and monitor the accuracy of system access levels for site textbook managers.
- Supervise the ordering, purchasing, receiving, processing and distribution of library materials, textbooks and curriculum resources as directed by appropriate district staff.
- Supervise the maintenance and organization of the inventory of excess textbook and curriculum resources located in the Textbook Area of the SSC Warehouse.
- Supervise the processing and distribution of library materials, textbooks and curriculum resources ordered by and sent to Library Media and Textbook Services by schools and other district staff to ensure timely completion.
- Assist first and second year elementary and middle school Library Media Specialists with collection development and library orders.
- Oversee collaboration with district and building administrators and the Library Curriculum Specialist to provide an exemplary library program at every site.
- Work with building administrators to provide training, information and resources needed by site textbook managers.
- Provide feedback to hiring managers filling library positions K-12 as requested. Collaborate with Elementary Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Library Curriculum Specialist to manage library staffing.
- Communicate effectively with personnel involved with placement and funding of library media specialists.
- Maintain knowledge of State Board of Education compliance guidelines concerning allocation allotments and licensure requirements as necessary.
- Serve as district representative for design and construction review of new and remodeled library media centers. Advise on selecting appropriate library furniture. Coordinate assistance by Library Media and Textbook Services staff for moving library collections.
- Research sources, request permission for rights, and maintain copyright clearance records for all types of print and non-print media for district staff. Publish and communicate copyright guidelines to district staff.
- Provide technical advice and expedite procedures for licensing agreements; assist in purchasing equipment and supplies; negotiate contracts with library material suppliers; attend supplier bid meetings and BOE meetings when items pertain to library materials.
- Organize and lead meetings with Library Media and Textbook Services staff for problem solving, planning, in-service training, and other events. Serve as a member of district committees.
- Assist with creating and maintaining the Library Media and Textbook Services portal presence and web site.
- Collaborate with community organizations to create partnerships benefiting students and staff (e.g., Wichita Public Library, School Library Advocacy Group, Wichita Area Library Association, Watermark Books, etc.).
- Represent Library Media and Textbook Services on district leadership teams as appropriate.
- Participate in interviewing committees for classified and certified personnel and assist with related processes.
- Provide and attend professional growth training opportunities for Library Media and Textbook Services Staff.
- Assist with inventory, reorganizing and special library and textbook projects at school sites.
- Prepare, duplicate and distribute materials for department meetings and in-service sessions; arrange for in-service presenters as needed and assist instructors as required.

- Assists with additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Equipment
- This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment. Must comply with USD 259 guidelines for equipment use.
Travel
- Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.
Physical And Mental Demands
- Ability to perform all tasks and work the hours required.
- Ability to work overtime on short notice may be required.
- Work in standard school building environments and warehouse settings.
- Daily schedule may fluctuate to meet deadlines.
- Attendance at meetings and in-services is required.
- Must be able to walk long distances; stand or sit for long periods; bend, twist, balance, stoop, climb steps, reach overhead, lift, push/pull up to 20 pounds or more with assistance.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Understanding of library processes.
- Adequate knowledge of computers and software applications, 10-key and other office equipment.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external stakeholders to share and obtain information.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a supervisor when discretion is needed.
- Ability to lead as a team, managing employees, budgets and projects.
- Ability to plan, organize, make decisions and prioritize work to meet daily department demands.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- Preferred Library Media professional licensure.
- Preferred minimum of 3 years’ experience supervising staff.
- Preferred minimum of 5 years’ experience in Library or Textbook Services.
