Job Title: Technician 10 - Video Production Specialist

Position Function: The Video Production Specialist creatively tells stories through videos that highlight activities, programs and achievements of Wichita Public Schools students and staff. This position records and edits video and audio to develop communication and marketing material that supports district goals and initiatives.

Employee Punctuality And Appearance

  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of WPS and is appropriate for their position

Additional Duties: General office, event and district-initiative support as needed, other duties and responsibilities as directed by supervisor.

Equipment: This position requires the use of highly specialized video production equipment and software, which the candidate must possess knowledge of in order to secure employment. The position also requires the ability to use tablets, DSLR cameras and smartphones in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with Wichita Public Schools’ guidelines for equipment use.

Travel: Frequent In-district travel is required.

Physical And Mental Demands

  • Work in open office and school building environments
  • Attendance at required monthly meetings
  • Extended period of visual focusing required
  • Occasional evening and weekend overtime should be anticipated and is required
  • Climbing, lifting and other physical activity as required to transport production equipment and capture required video.
  • Ability to carry 20 lbs of video equipment up flights of stairs, work on foot for several hours a day as required.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Ability to effectively communicate through writing, spoken words and imagery.
  • Proven writing, photography and video editing skills.
  • Mastery of video editing software (Final Cut Pro and/or Adobe Premiere)
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and improvise as needed
  • Ability to work effectively and patiently with students and staff, perform a variety of tasks, changing assignments on short notice, performing tasks with multiple deadlines and working in a calm and efficient manner
  • Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and balance competing deadlines.
  • Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals and the role of each employee in achieving them

Interrelations

  • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers, vendors and Board of Education Members
  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to work both independently and effectively with a team.
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service

Qualifications

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

  • Effectively tells stories about the Wichita Public Schools through video.
  • Plans, develops, records and edits video productions for use across multiple WPS channels.
  • Collaborates with supervisor and others for an effective review and approval process.
  • Creates engaging videos and animations to succinctly and clearly convey complex information.
  • Effectively uses professional video cameras, microphones, editing software, studio switchers, music, audio mixing boards and lighting equipment.
  • Creates professional video graphics using computer imaging software.
  • Operates the audio and video equipment to support the recording of Wichita Public Schools Board of Education meetings. Works with supervisor to ensure appropriate staffing redundancy of this operation.
  • Provides video production support for district and community events.
  • Researches and recommends new technologies and equipment purchases and coordinates equipment purchases with Supervisor.
  • Troubleshoots video equipment issues.
  • Advises students and staff in the set up and use of media equipment, school TV studios and computer editing programs.
  • Works with and assists students and staff in the production of media projects.
  • Assists with crisis communication as needed.
  • Serves on district committees as requested by Leadership.

Qualification Profile

  • Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 8 years of video production experience required
  • Outstanding knowledge of video editing computers and software, video servers and experience operating and troubleshooting technical problems with automated television broadcast systems
  • Must have professional experience in video production, with exemplary examples of writing, videography, editing and graphics design
