About the Opportunity BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) seeks a forward-thinking, tenacious Vice President of Marketing and Communications to join the senior leadership team and manage the department charged with marketing, creative services, ticket services, market research/audience data analysis, revenue forecasting, communications, and brand storytelling. Reporting to the President and partnering with the Artistic Director, Producer, Chief Programming Operations Officer, and Vice President of Advancement, this role will promote BAM’s ambitious and diverse programming and help grow and sustain a vibrant and diverse audience base.

The Vice President of Marketing and Communications will be a strong manager and mentor, capable of moving from strategic thinking to operational execution, and will collaborate with colleagues and external partners. They should be knowledgeable in traditional marketing tools while being adaptive and eager to experiment with new channels and practices. They will maintain a close partnership with Advancement to align marketing and fundraising strategies and will help lead BAM into its next chapter of vibrancy and impact. About BAM A world-class home for adventurous artists, audiences, and ideas, BAM is North America’s oldest multidisciplinary arts center, renowned for dance, theater, music, opera, visual arts, literature, and film engagements. BAM attracts more than 750,000 visitors annually and operates a distinctive multi-theater campus with programs like Next Wave, DanceAfrica, and a repertory film program. Job Description The Vice President of Marketing leads a team of 17+ staff to develop and implement strategies that amplify BAM’s position as a leading cultural institution. This role collaborates across the organization to create campaigns that strengthen the BAM brand, drive program awareness, expand and diversify audiences, and achieve revenue goals. Key Opportunities and Result Areas Strategic Leadership Build brand awareness and ensure consistency of BAM’s voice across channels Work with the artistic team to advance BAM’s mission and engage audiences across performance and film programming Partner with Advancement to align marketing and fundraising strategies Collaborate with senior leadership on long-term audience growth and revenue strategies Team & Department Oversight Develop, manage, motivate, and retain a high-performing team across marketing, creative services, ticket services, communications, social media, and marketing operations Foster a collaborative, data-informed culture Optimize operational aspects of marketing and oversee planning/budgeting; develop revenue projections and re-forecasts Brand Marketing & Management Articulate and implement BAM’s brand and storytelling strategies Ensure consistency of visual and verbal identity across touchpoints and activate brand ethos Campaign Development & Execution Oversee multi-channel marketing and communications campaigns Collaborate with Advancement on integrated campaigns for grass roots giving, membership, and patron opportunities Integrate direct marketing, advertising, organic social, promotions, and grassroots efforts Audience Insights & Analytics Use audience research and data analytics to inform strategy and optimize campaigns Monitor sales and engagement metrics and adjust tactics in real time Revenue & Growth Expand and diversify audiences to meet attendance and revenue goals Deepen engagement with existing audiences and drive membership Collaborate with Development to drive membership and donor/sponsor engagement Develop new revenue streams and expand existing ones (e.g., venue rentals, merchandise) Duties and Responsibilities Communication & Partnership
Lead BAM’s marketing strategy and report to the President Collaborate on strategic planning for audience development and revenue growth Align marketing with programming and fundraising goals; work with cross-functional teams Hire, mentor, and guide a diverse team; develop three direct reports Measure and report on marketing effectiveness to leadership and the Board Cultivate relationships with media partners and community organizations Oversight of Strategies, Tactics, & Goals
Develop annual marketing plans and budgets; monitor spending for efficiency Oversee audience segmentation and targeting Grow ticket revenue and attendance with pricing strategies including dynamic pricing and discounts Partner with internal teams and external agencies to implement innovative campaigns Conceive and implement campaigns for all program verticals and signature festivals Maintaining Systems for a Strong Department
Develop systems to increase team effectiveness and efficiency Use sales data and analytics to create revenue projections and adjust forecasts Implement data-driven marketing strategies and optimize media buys Foster innovation and stay abreast of marketing trends in the arts Oversee production of promotional materials and ensure accessibility and inclusion in marketing Qualifications 10+ years as a marketing lead in an in-house brand or arts non-profit of similar scale Proven track record with large-scale, multi-channel campaigns Expertise in digital marketing, audience development, and brand strategy; data-driven decision making Strong leadership and ability to mentor a diverse team Ability to translate artistic vision into compelling campaigns Collaborative across departments and with external partners Proficiency in marketing tech, CRM, and digital platforms Analytical and problem-solving skills with data-informed decisions Excellent written and verbal communication; adaptable to audience Budget management and resource allocation Knowledge of current trends in arts marketing and audience development Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Flexible, fast-paced, capable of managing multiple projects Passion for BAM’s mission Familiarity with New York arts landscape preferred Good sense of humor Ability to follow BAM’s hybrid work policy (in-office at least two days/week, subject to change) Working Conditions Category 2- Administrative work with walking Compensation The salary for this position is $235,000-250,000. BAM provides comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, retirement options (401(k) and pension), and access to BAM programming.
