Definition and Class Characteristics INTERVIEWS FOR SELECTED CANDIDATES COULD BE HELD THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 6, 2025. Under general direction, plans, organizes, and directs the work of the Law Enforcement Records and Warrants Sections of the Sheriff's Department; provides training to Sheriff's staff as needed regarding assigned areas; and performs related work as required. This is a working supervisory classification, responsible for selecting, training, and evaluating clerical administrative and accounting staff, and for the maintenance and security of law enforcement records, including computer security, and participating in record keeping and warrant processes.
Examples of Duties: Essential:
Maintains the confidentiality and security of law enforcement files and records; controls the retention and distribution of department records and information Processes, confirms, and locates information on warrants using the telephone and teletype; and resolves problems with warrants. Processes money received from the jail including bails and fines, makes deposits, requests checks, and accounts for monies. Directs the work of assigned staffed, determines work assignments, identifies training needs and arranges or conducts training; evaluates work of assigned staff; recommends disciplinary action; reviews and approves time sheets and overtime Assists in developing procedures, standards and work measurement systems for assigned area Prepares and updates appropriate policy, procedure, and training manuals; consults with other department supervisors in the formulation and implementation Interprets and applies federal, state, and local laws regulating the control of law enforcement records and assists in the development of department guidelines for compliance Supervises the validation of department information contained in state California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) and National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS) criminal information computers, the sealing and dismissal of records and reports in accordance with court orders, applicant fingerprint coding and processing, and sex and narcotics and arson registration Insures compliance with federal and state reporting of crime and arrest statistics Acts as law enforcement records custodian and Agency Terminal Coordinator Participates in staff functions; assists with the development of the department budget Assists in the maintenance, development and general administration of the Sheriff's automated criminal justice information system Composes correspondence and reports Important:
