Overview
Music Instructor (PT) at The Salvation Army USA Central Territory, Northern and Central Illinois Division, Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center – Chicago.
Location/Dept: RJKCCC | Reports To: Gospel & Music Fine Arts Manager.
Pay Grade: 203 | Pay Range: $18.11/hour.

Job Objective: The music instructor will be responsible for teaching group and/or individual music lessons, developing curriculum and assessments, and establishing collaborative partnerships within the community.

Responsibilities
- Teach individual and/or group music lessons.
- Design and implement curriculum, assessment rubrics, and lesson plans for each course; provide records and activity summaries to the Kroc Fine Arts Director regularly.
- Develop and implement ongoing collaborative partnerships for music programming with schools and organizations.
- Participate in recruitment and outreach efforts as directed by the Fine Arts Director.
- Attend assigned staff meetings and be willing to teach additional classes and workshops as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.
- Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Music, or equivalent qualified performance experience.
- Experience: Three years teaching experience required, five years preferred (classroom, private, or group lessons).
- Provide a record of musical performance experience.
- Evidence of experience in curriculum development.
Competencies and Skills
- Ability to work with children, parents and staff in a leadership capacity.
- Self-starter with initiative; demonstrated performance experience in your teaching content area.
- Ability to start class on time with setup and reset the room as required; working knowledge of music literature.
- Philosophy of education and child development aligned with The Salvation Army.
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to promote the Salvation Army’s mission.
- Safe from Harm certification within 30 days of hire.
Physical Requirements
- Satisfactory speaking, hearing, and vision; excellent manual dexterity.
- Lifting/pulling/pushing of materials up to 25 pounds.
- Requires bending, squatting, walking; standing for extended periods.

Working Conditions
Work may occur in an office environment with normal room temperature and low noise. For outdoor events and community center activities, conditions may include weather variations and moderate to loud noise.
