This position is long-term beginning on November 3 through the end of the 2025-2026 school year.
Certification in Library Science grades PK-12 preferred or Librarian experience with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and an agreement to apply for an emergency permit with the PA Department of Education.
Position Pay
$150.00 per day after 20 days of employment in position ($125.00 per day for first 20 days, on 21st day, pay is retroactive to the first day of teaching at the $150.00 rate).

Summary Of Purpose
The secondary school librarian is a leader, teacher, and information specialist who manages the library as a flexible and dynamic learning hub for the entire school community. They are responsible for fostering a love of reading and empowering students to become critical thinkers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information. This professional will collaborate with teachers, staff, and students to support literacy, research skills, and the effective use of technology. This comprehensive approach ensures that the library serves as a hub for learning and inspiration, nurturing the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.
Essential Functions
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop and implement lessons that integrate information literacy, research methodologies, and technology into the curriculum.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate the school’s library media program, aligning it with school and district goals.
- Provide guidance and resources to help students and staff evaluate, access, and ethically use information from both print and digital sources.
- Curate a diverse and inclusive library collection that aligns with curriculum needs and student interests.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the library, including budget administration, personnel supervision, and strategic planning.
- Oversee the library's automation and circulation systems.
- Oversee the selection, acquisition, and cataloging of new materials.
- Ensure access to resources and technology for all students.
- Promote reading for pleasure and lifelong learning through displays, book clubs, author visits, and other literacy-focused events.
- Lead the integration of new technologies, online databases, and educational software into the library's services.
- Teach students and staff how to use digital tools effectively and practice digital citizenship.
- Actively participate in school improvement activities, engage with parents and the wider community, and remain current with professional developments, information technologies, and educational research.
Scope And Impact
This position accomplishes most of its tasks through standard procedures. Internal contacts include the principal, teachers, other school staff members, students, and other school district employees. External contacts include parents and community members.
Minimum Requirements
- Library Science Certification Required
- Proficiency in library software, digital media

Physical/Environmental
Physical Demands: Constant bending, twisting, lifting, pushing, and pulling. Constantly alternating between sitting and standing. Normally does not work at heights above ten feet. Normally does not lift any object weighing more than fifty pounds.
Sensory Abilities: Visual acuity, Auditory acuity
Work Environment: Typical administrative office and school environment. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Occasional travel to off-site environments. Temperament: Must possess excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions. Able to make judgments and work under high levels of stress.

Ability to use technology for group meetings, presentations (i.e. overhead, document camera, projector and video equipment).
Supervision Received And Exercised
The secondary school librarian shall be a professional employee. This individual is responsible directly to the Building Principals. Performance will be evaluated annually by the Building Principals, in accordance with the provisions of the Upper Adams Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
