Library Assistant I (PT), CP1N14363LRC – College of DuPage
The College of DuPage is a comprehensive community college located 27 miles west of downtown Chicago, connected to our local area for over 50 years. We prepare students for a lifelong passion for learning on our 273-acre campus, which is home to nine associate degrees and a wide variety of professional and technical certificates. Many of these credentials prepare students to articulate into the baccalaureate programs of our higher education partner institutions.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Facilitate patron access to library materials, provide excellent customer service, and interpret Library policies. Perform circulation functions including loaning, check-out, check-in, renewal, and fine collection processing according to Library policies. Utilize the scheduling module of the integrated library system to schedule materials and equipment for classroom use. Process credit card payments, schedule small group study rooms, and produce student ID cards.
Provide access to Library materials and equipment; serve as the initial contact point for Library patrons. Assist patrons in locating materials such as class reserve items and Circulation Desk media. Resolve patron problems based on knowledge of Library policies. Schedule faculty and staff requests for audiovisual equipment and Library materials. Assist students in reserving small group rooms and processing Student IDs. Report facility maintenance and security issues as appropriate. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- One year of college required.
- LTA Certificate or Associate Degree preferred.
Experience
- One year of customer service experience required.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English required.
- One year library circulation experience preferred.
Working Conditions
Photocopiers; library computer system and related equipment; cash register; multiple software programs; audiovisual equipment. Busy public service area; must have excellent people skills; must be flexible and able to adjust to last-minute situations. Must be able to stand for extended periods; reach shelf height of up to 6 feet; work at counter height; mobility to bend and stoop. Ability to spend extended periods at a computer keyboard and monitor. Vision adequate to read a variety of print materials and computer screens. This position requires a background check.

Part-Time Schedule:
- Sunday: 11:45am-6:15pm
- Monday: 7:30am-2:30pm
- Tuesday: 7:15am-12:15pm
- Thursday: 7:15am-12:15pm
Hiring Range: Starting pay begins at $18.83/hr. based on experience. College of DuPage offers regular part-time positions with fringe benefits including retirement benefits, holiday pay, personal time, and other discounts on classes.
