Medical Photography Manager – Freeman Hospital (Band 7)

Job Overview: This is an exciting opportunity to lead and manage the clinical photography services at Newcastle Hospitals. This role is ideal for a qualified Clinical Photographer with strong leadership experience to enhance our medical photography services and inspire others to perform at their best.

Main responsibilities

  • Lead a team of photographers, technicians and administration staff to provide accurate, ethical and timely visual documentation for clinical, diagnostic, educational and legal purposes.
  • Manage departmental development and expansion to meet Trust-wide needs.
  • Provide an out-of-hours on-call service (evenings and weekends) across hospital sites.
  • Ensure effective management, development and provision of the service; implement Departmental, National, Local and Trust policies.
  • Support the Clinical Board and departmental management with responsibility areas and lead in delegated areas.
  • Maintain CPD portfolios to satisfy Health Professions Council and Institute of Medical Illustrators requirements.
  • Provide images for use in assessments, treatments, or social care as appropriate.

About the role and site

Our sites include Freeman Hospital, Newcastle Hospitals campuses and associated specialist facilities. Flexible working arrangements may be discussed where possible to support service needs.

Working arrangements

  • 37 hours 30 minutes per week

Person specification

Qualifications & Education

  • BSc in Medical Illustration
  • Registration as a Medical Illustrator Practitioner

Knowledge & Experience

  • Post-graduate MSc level training and extensive experience in confidentiality, consent, and data protection in medical photography
  • Proficiency with a wide range of camera formats and information technology
  • Experience in a photographic environment and evidence of CPD

Skills & Abilities

  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills with change management experience
  • Ability to work beyond the traditional studio environment
  • Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills

Desirable criteria

  • Experience mentoring junior staff
  • Experience running a Trust-wide Medical Photography service
