Location: Chicago, IL USA

Base pay range: $32.00/hr - $67.00/hr

Work Schedule – 40 hours; Shift: Flex Days; FTE: 1; Number of Positions: 12; Posting Date: 3/21/2025

Overview

The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care in the SCB Endoscopy Lab and integrates Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care, and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. The role supports department and unit goals and collaborates with the health care team to promote effective patient care.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and updates the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessments and input from the patient’s family.
  • Shares information and collaborates with the health care team to promote effective patient care.
  • Verifies and implements orders from physicians and other prescribers; documents accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Engages with patient and/or family to develop appropriate educational plans.
  • Recognizes symptoms, establishes priorities, and responds to patient needs; delegates appropriate tasks per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act.
  • Advocates for patients, families, the community, and the nursing profession; participates in organizational, departmental, and shared leadership activities.
  • Engages in ongoing professional growth and maintains competence; serves as preceptor or resource to staff and students as assigned.
  • Takes responsibility for pre-, intra-, and post-procedure patient monitoring and care, including pain management and sedation monitoring as applicable.
  • Assists with a variety of endoscopy procedures; pre-cleaning of endoscopy scopes and equipment; maintains knowledge of endoscopy instruments and aseptic technique.
  • Performs processing and high-level disinfection of endoscopes and equipment; documents quality control measures.
  • Ensures a clean, safe environment; coordinates equipment setup for procedures and assists with patient transport and positioning.
  • Provides comprehensive discharge instructions and educates patients on condition, treatment, medications, diet, and self-care.
  • Maintains inventory, restocks supplies, and coordinates equipment maintenance with supervision as needed.
  • Requires current Illinois Registered Nurse license, BLS, TB compliance, mandatory in-services, and other required programs; participates in quality improvement activities.
  • On-call requirement as determined by department needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois.
  • Current BLS/CPR and other unit-specific certifications as required.
  • Current ACLS.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of the endoscopy team; strong computer skills and ability to learn Electronic Health Records.
  • Ability to interpret and apply hospital and departmental policies and procedures; well-organized and dependable; excellent attendance and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience with GI procedures (preferred).
  • BSN (preferred).
  • 2 years of experience in pre- and post-procedural recovery and assessment in endoscopy (preferred).
  • Experience in Therapeutic Endoscopy, Endoscopy Call, Pulmonary Procedures (preferred).
  • Clinical knowledge of endoscopy procedures and related instrumentation.
