Overview
Paraeducator - Social Communication (SC) in South Kitsap School District. Reports to Building Principal. Employment Type: Classified. Hours per Day: 6.25. Days per Year: 181 (+11 Holidays) = 192. Salary Schedule: Schedule A-Sup/Inst. Salary Range: IV. FLSA Status: Hourly. Base pay range: $72.00/hr - $72.00/hr.

Responsibilities
- Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher or specialist to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
- Assist students, teachers, and other staff to implement instruction and/or IEPs.
- Attend meetings and trainings (e.g., first aid, CPR, emergency procedures, de-escalation training) to acquire and convey information related to job functions.
- Develop instruction for students in individual and group activities (academic subjects, daily living, physical, communication, and behavior/social skills) to evaluate progress on IEP objectives and support student success.
- Implement behavioral plans designed by the IEP team under supervision to reinforce learning concepts.
- Maintain confidentiality following HIPAA, FERPA, and IEP requirements.
- Maintain instructional materials and records to ensure availability and meet mandated requirements.
- Monitor students in various school environments to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
- Observe and record data to support progress of individual student goals and objectives.
- Provide clerical and general classroom assistance to document student progress and support learning goals.
- Supervise and guide students to support growth in social communication skills and ensure safety.
- Work under direct and indirect supervision using standardized routines for safe, positive learning environments.
Other Functions
- Perform other related duties as assigned; may be a 1:1 paraeducator for a student to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
Qualifications
Minimum Education: Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Preferred Education: Paraeducator Certificate Program.
- Have completed one of the following: passing score on ParaPro, or an associate degree or higher, or 72 quarter credits / 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher.
Certifications and Licenses: CPR/First Aid Certificate; Valid Washington State Driver's License with evidence of insurability; ProACT de-escalation and restraint training; Paraeducator Certificate Program. Clearances: Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Background Clearance.
Testing: Job-Related Skills Proficiency Test.

Job-related experience is desired.
