Overview
The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Community College District offers part-time instructor opportunities to teach classes and contribute to continuous improvement of instruction and programs, student success and completion, and the mission and values of Shasta College. Compensation is in accordance with the terms of the collective bargaining agreement between the Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District and Shasta College Faculty Association/CTA/NEA.
Responsibilities
- Meet classes and laboratories as assigned within the academic calendar and during intersessions and summer sessions.
- Develop and implement instruction for each class and laboratory period, aligned with the official course outline and District guidelines.
- For online and hybrid courses, maintain online course components and provide regular student-student and student-instructor contact as required.
- During the first week of class, develop and distribute a syllabus communicating course description, objectives, grading, testing, attendance, and other requirements per District guidelines.
- Provide regular, timely feedback to students and return graded work in a timely fashion.
- Assign final grades in accordance with District policy, administrative procedures, California Education Code, and Title 5.
- Respect student rights as specified in District policy and applicable laws.
- Submit requisitions for textbooks and instructional materials in a timely manner, considering cost to students.
- Refer students to tutoring and related services when appropriate.
- Supervise students in off-campus activities when required by a course or instructor load.
- Provide academic assistance and related services during scheduled office hours.
- Participate in professional development to stay current in the assigned discipline.
- Submit required administrative paperwork, including student learning outcomes, in a timely and accurate manner.
- Engage in discipline-specific responsibilities as assigned.
- Participate in evaluation processes as described in the faculty collective bargaining agreement.
- Develop professional skills and stay current in subject matter knowledge; maintain and submit official records as required by District policy and procedures; observe District property and safety rules.
- Report absences due to illness or personal necessity to the supervising administrator; recommend purchases of instructional supplies and equipment as needed.
- Fulfill obligations as established in the current collective bargaining agreement.
Qualifications
- Education Required: Master’s in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication, or organizational communication; OR Bachelor’s in any of the above with Master’s in drama/theater arts, mass communication, or English; OR The Equivalent.
- Experience Required: Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of staff and students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.

- Equivalency: California minimum qualifications allow equivalency consideration. Applicants may qualify through equivalency if they can demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the degree program through education and experience. Equivalency procedures and standards are described by the Shasta College Academic Senate.
