Prairie Consulting Services is hiring: Sr UI Developer in Chicago

Overview

We are seeking a Senior UI/Frontend Developer to join our direct client's Platform Engineering / Enterprise Architecture team. This is a frontend-focused engineering role where you will build and enhance enterprise-wide developer tools, frameworks, and platforms centered around React and TypeScript. You will not just deliver applications—you’ll help shape the developer experience, mentor others, and guide technical direction. This role is hands-on coding.

What You’ll Do

• Lead development of React + TypeScript applications, libraries, and frameworks used across the enterprise.
• Design and build reusable UI components, design systems, and developer tools.
• Support full-stack integration: Node.js, REST/GraphQL APIs, and cloud-native pipelines.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar).
• Contribute ideas, mentor teammates, and propose improvements—not just “take tasks.”
• Collaborate with enterprise and platform engineering teams to enhance developer experience.
• Work with cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS/GCP fine) to deploy scalable solutions.
• Drive quality through testing, automation, and best practices.

Key Requirements

Technical Skills

• Experience building frameworks, libraries, or enterprise-wide platforms (not just apps).
• Solid knowledge of Node.js, REST/GraphQL, SQL/NoSQL.
• Strong CI/CD and DevOps background (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, pipelines).
• Cloud experience (Azure preferred; AWS/GCP acceptable).
• Comfort with command-line tools, automation, and open-source practices.
• Senior-level contributor with the ability to mentor, challenge, and guide others.
• Confident communicator—direct, concise, and collaborative.
• Comfortable with abstract problems and proposing strong, workable solutions.
• Evidence of technical leadership: mentoring, driving improvements, portfolio/GitHub activity.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Backstage or similar developer hub frameworks.
