Lumentum is seeking a dynamic Sr. Director of Product and Strategic Marketing to drive thought leadership, shape market perception, and help define our future. This is a high-impact, dual-role position focused on both Strategic Marketing and Product Marketing. The ideal candidate combines deep industry experience with technical fluency and a talent for compelling storytelling.
Product Marketing:
The primary focus of this role in product marketing is to develop impactful content that supports Lumentum's outbound marketing program, positioning the company as the
thought leader in the industry . This will be accomplished through a two-step process:
Step 1: Build Deep Product and Customer Understanding Develop strong relationships with Business Units, Product Managers, and Sales teams. Gain a thorough understanding of Lumentum's products, roadmaps, solutions, customers, differentiators, and market dynamics. Identify strategic content opportunities that align with business priorities and emerging market trends. Engage directly with customers and participate in internal roadmap sessions and key business reviews to gather insights on product positioning and customer needs. Step 2: Create High-Impact, Insight-Driven Content
Leverage the insights gained from deep product and customer engagement to
generate meaningful, high-quality marketing content -reducing dependency on business leaders and product managers for content creation. Essentially, the goal here is to help communicate the Lumentum story and messages to external stakeholders. Collaborate closely with Lumentum's marketing team to research, write, and edit a variety of materials, including:
White papers Technical blog posts Case studies Product briefs Thought leadership articles Lumentum's Social Media channels Corporate Presentation
Personally participate in webinars, trade shows, and live speaking engagements and also support Lumentum spokespeople who are participating in these engagements through speaker preparation and presentation development where appropriate. Plan and develop scripts for marketing videos, customer testimonials, and product demonstrations. Maintain overall ownership of website content, with support from Product Line Managers (PLMs). Strategic Marketing:
CTO Partnership & Technology Strategy
Collaborate closely with the CTO organization to align on key strategic initiatives. Provide marketing insights and market modeling to evaluate the potential of emerging technologies and product segments. Develop compelling marketing materials that articulate future product concepts and technology vision. Participate in customer engagements to communicate long-term innovation strategies and gather market feedback. Lead negotiation and structuring of NRE (Non-Recurring Engineering) agreements with customers to support the development of new technologies and prototypes. Industry Engagement & Thought Leadership
Act as the Marketing liaison to key industry interest groups such as the Advanced Photonics Coalition, and the Ethernet Forum, representing Lumentum's interests and helping shape industry direction. Identify and participate in speaking opportunities, panel discussions, and working groups to enhance Lumentum's visibility and influence. Strategic Roadmapping & Cross-Functional Alignment
Review product roadmaps across business units, providing input to ensure consistency, market relevance, and alignment with strategic goals. Meet with customers to discuss global roadmaps on an as-needed basis and fill-in for PLMs when required. Market Intelligence & Research
Engage with market research firms to gather insights on emerging trends, competitive landscapes, and market shipment data. Synthesize market data and disseminate relevant learnings to internal stakeholders. Qualified Candidates Will Bring:
Required:
Bachelor's degree with 20+ years of relevant experience in product marketing, strategic marketing, or related functions Proven experience in the optical communications or related high-tech industry Strong technical background (engineering or scientific discipline) Demonstrated ability to create high-impact technical content (e.g., white papers, blogs, briefs) Skilled in cross-functional collaboration with product, sales, and CTO teams Comfortable engaging directly with customers and representing the company externally Experience using market research and competitive insights to inform strategy Familiarity with product roadmaps and aligning marketing with business goals Preferred:
Advanced degree (MBA or MS/PhD in a technical field) Experience negotiating and managing NRE (Non-Recurring Engineering) agreements Involvement in industry groups (e.g., Advanced Photonics Coalition, Ethernet Forum) Global marketing exposure Understanding of digital and social media marketing for B2B audiences Experience scripting or developing marketing videos, webinars, and demos Additional Requirement
Presence is required onsite 5 days/week to foster collaboration and productivity.

Pay Range: P95-USA-1 :$187,450.00 - $267,750.00 Disclaimer:
Final base salary for the successful candidate will depend on multiple factors, including but not limited to, job location, where work will be performed, qualifications, work history and relevant experience.
