The Volunteer Coordinator / Music Therapist plays a dual role in enriching the hospice experience for patients, families, and the community. This position combines the leadership of our volunteer program with the clinical support of a board-certified music therapist, ensuring that patients benefit from both compassionate human connection and individualized music-based interventions.

Volunteer Coordination Responsibilities

  • Recruit, onboard, and train volunteers to serve in roles including patient companionship, caregiver respite, bereavement, administrative support, and community outreach
  • Schedule and assign volunteers based on patient needs and program requirements
  • Track and report volunteer hours to ensure compliance with the Medicare 5% requirement
  • Collaborate with the care team to integrate volunteers into the plan of care
  • Maintain volunteer records and documentation, and recognize volunteers through engagement and appreciation activities
  • Represent the hospice program in the community, cultivating volunteer partnerships and awareness

Music Therapy Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized music therapy interventions across home, facility, and inpatient settings
  • Support symptom management, legacy work, and emotional healing through therapeutic music experiences
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary planning and bereavement support, including memorial activities
  • Maintain documentation in the EMR according to hospice standards
  • Educate staff, caregivers, and the community on the role of music therapy in hospice care

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy required; MT-BC certification (or eligibility within 6 months of hire)
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in volunteer coordination, hospice, or healthcare preferred
  • Strong musicianship (voice/instrument) and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with hospice regulations and Medicare's volunteer service requirements preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to use electronic documentation systems
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required

Compensation

Compensation is shown below and reflects the expected pay range for the role. Final compensation may vary based on experience, licensure, and location. Arc Hospice is committed to transparency and equity in all compensation practices.
