Retail Scan Associate (Newport News, VA 23601) - Overview

ScanScape seeks a part-time Retail Scan Associate to visit a designated selection of stores each week, scan all product barcodes on displays and in aisle locations (including aisle end caps), and help improve product and retailer performance through data collection and analysis. This is a permanent PART-TIME role with weekly hours typically estimated at 10-14 per week, depending on store size and project requirements. The work includes continuous physical activity throughout a weekday shift and offers workplace independence with some scheduling flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Visit assigned local retailers (grocery, convenience, drug, pet, and mass merchandise stores) across Newport News and nearby areas.
• Use a downloadable mobile app to scan barcodes in multiple store locations and collect data.
• Complete in-store data collection for every week of the year (including holidays), meeting weekly deadlines.
• Perform Display Scanning across the store; this can require several hours to complete.
• Handle optional Custom Projects requested by clients, which may add 30 minutes to 2 hours of work per store in some weeks.
• Provide quantity data for approximately 45% of scanned products as required.
• Maintain dependability, quality-driven action, and independence in the workplace.

Qualifications

• At least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license.
• Reliable vehicle with minimum state auto insurance coverage.
• Ability to stand for long periods and access products throughout the store; ability to lift up to 25 pounds; reach up to 6 feet; bend/stretch/stoop/stand.
• Ability to perform repetitive movements with hands, wrists, arms, and legs for prolonged periods.
• Attention to detail and ability to work independently; deadline-driven self-starter.
• Reliable Wi-Fi access and tech savviness.
• High school diploma or GED (preferred).
