Overview

This position is responsible for performing skilled work in the operation and maintenance of audio-visual and computer equipment used in the internal inspection, inventory, and evaluation of the city\'s sanitary sewer mains and customer service lines.

Responsibilities

  • Performs sewer televising equipment set up, maintenance, and storage.
  • Sets up and breaks down sewer televising equipment, and ensures proper attachment of the lateral camera and launcher.
  • Cleans truck as needed and maintains equipment.
  • Performs repairs on the camera; ensures correct calibration of the televising camera inclinometer.
  • Records accurate information on televising and smoke testing findings.
  • Places the camera in the manhole sets and adjusts the camera position in line, and enters manholes as required.
  • Obtains all street and pipeline maps and/or blueprints for daily work assignments.
  • Operates equipment to clean and repair pipelines.
  • Sets up all safety equipment, loads and unloads inventory, and restocks vehicles.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, with two years of work experience in sanitary sewer, storm water, or wastewater treatment, and some exposure to videotaping production; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver\'s license with an acceptable driving history.

Additional Requirements

  • Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen, and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of City and department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of cameras and equipment used in the televising process.
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of wastewater collection systems.
  • Skill in reading maps and blueprints.
  • Skill in the use of cameras, vacuum trucks, and line locators.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

Minimum Standards

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: Receives instructions from Senior Televising Technician. Maintains a safe work environment, may supervise Utilities maintenance workers.

GUIDELINES: OSHA regulations, city codes and ordinances, city and department policies and procedures, and supervisory instructions. Guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation.

COMPLEXITY: The work consists of varied technical and maintenance duties. Different and varied processes and methods contribute to the complexity of the work.

SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to inspect and maintain department pipelines. Successful performance helps ensure a safe and healthy work environment and a safe water supply.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.

The work is typically performed in an office and a wastewater treatment plant. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, machinery with moving parts, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
