The Senior UX Lead sets the vision and drives execution of user-experience strategy across digital products-while ensuring every deliverable meets Section 508 and WCAG standards. This role combines hands-on UX expertise with strong leadership skills to build, mentor, and inspire a team of designers and researchers. The ideal candidate partners closely with product management, engineering, and stakeholders to deliver intuitive, accessible, and innovative solutions that satisfy both user needs and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy
• Define and champion a UX vision aligned with business goals and accessibility requirements (Section 508 / WCAG 2.2).
• Establish and maintain a design system and accessibility guidelines to ensure consistency and compliance across all platforms.
• Partner with product and engineering to embed accessibility checkpoints into Agile workflows.
Design & Execution
• Oversee the end-to-end design process-from discovery through delivery-ensuring all products are usable by people of all abilities.
• Direct accessibility audits and collaborate with QA to validate Section 508 compliance.
• Advocate for data-driven design decisions using both qualitative and quantitative research.
Collaboration & Communication
• Present UX and accessibility strategy to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
• Build strong cross-functional relationships to integrate accessibility into every stage of product development.
• Serve as the primary voice of the user, communicating user insights and accessibility requirements across the organization.
Success Metrics
• Demonstrable improvements in product usability, accessibility compliance scores, and customer satisfaction.
• Consistent adoption of accessibility standards across all teams and product lines.
• Growth and engagement of the UX team, with measurable professional development outcomes.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
• 8-12+ years of professional UX/UI design experience, including at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
• Proven success leading UX teams on complex, large-scale digital products.
• Deep expertise in Section 508 and WCAG 2.x compliance, including hands-on experience with accessibility audits, assistive technology testing (e.g., JAWS, NVDA), and remediation strategies.
• Strong proficiency with design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite).
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Ability to balance business objectives with user needs and technical constraints.
• Holds an active Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, Computer Science, Information Science/Technology, or related field.
• DHS Trusted Tester certification or equivalent accessibility credential.
• Experience with government, federal contracting, or other regulated industries.
• Familiarity with U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) or other large-scale design systems.
• Background in conducting or overseeing user research and usability testing.
