Perform responsible para-professional work and simple professional work planning and implementing programs and services of the Children’s Services Division of the Public Library. Work involves bringing children and their parents and teachers together with books and information through reference work, programs, etc.; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision, but requires a high degree of personal accountability, motivation, communication, and record keeping.**Essential Tasks & Responsibilities:*** Provides readers with advisory and reference services by interacting with customers about bestselling, popular, and literary materials; answers questions about print and non-print resources by phone or in person using online and print reference tools.* Instructs customers in the use of the online catalog and self-checkout stations.* Assists customers in accessing materials, recommends additional selections, and retrieves requested items for reserve.* Reviews new materials and Readers’ Advisory resources to provide accurate and knowledgeable assistance.* Designs and prepares displays to market print and non-print items.* Explains library policies and procedures to help customers successfully use resources.* Participates in community projects that promote reading and literacy.* Communicates effectively with all patrons, including senior adults, senior care facility administrators, and special needs adults.* Serves as SHARE (Senior Homebound Adult Reading Enrichment) Specialist by conducting readers’ advisory interviews, selecting materials based on profiles and requests, maintaining contact with patrons, communicating policies and delivery schedules, enrolling new participants, issuing cards, reconciling records and statistics, preparing and distributing program information, delivering materials weekly to homes and senior facilities, interacting with patrons about needs and satisfaction, and checking in and shelving returned items.* Reviews books in the New Fiction section and moves them to the regular circulating collection or removes them after the specified timeframe.* Forms partnerships with organizations serving seniors and special needs adults and collaborates on programming.* Schedules regular programs for senior facilities and adult day groups, selects topics, and prepares materials and handouts.* Receives and categorizes withdrawn library materials, determines suitability for donation to community organizations, delivers donations, and maintains records.* Represents the library at City and community events by presenting programs and services.* Recommends titles for addition to print and non-print collections.* Uses mobile devices to download materials and access information.* Trains customers to use and download materials to digital devices.* Applies digital technology and social media for customer instruction and marketing.* Creates and maintains databases, flyers, and bookmarks using computer software.* Prepares written reports, press releases, and marketing materials for division services and programs.* Interacts with and supports other divisions in providing customer service.* Supports services and programming for Teens, Seniors, Special Populations, or the public.* Resolves customer complaints and contacts customers regarding returned materials.* Maintains records and statistics using Excel or other methods.* Prepares reports, correspondence, and newsletters as directed.* Ensures all work complies with OSHA and City safety standards and policies.**Qualifications:**NOTE: Applicants must upload **a cover letter and resume with their application.****REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS*** Bachelor’s degree.* Valid driver’s license.* Customer service or retail experience required.* Must be an avid reader, familiar with popular authors, titles, and genres, and able to discuss books and movies with customers.* Experience using Canva, Photoshop, or equivalent graphic design programs.* Must be comfortable speaking in front of people and preparing presentations, including curriculum and lesson plans.* Experience using social media and digital technology for instruction and marketing* Strong business and office skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office* Must be comfortable leading programs in person or virtually,* Experience preparing professional public-facing materials.* Must be able to learn and teach use of electronic library resources and computerized circulation systems.* Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.* Must be able to relate to and communicate effectively with the public, co-workers, and supervisors.* Must have good listening skills and ability to follow written and oral instructions.* Must participate effectively in a team atmosphere, be adaptable and flexible with changing library services.* Must be able to move between all three floors, push carts of materials, and shelve items.* On-the-job training: approximately six weeks.**Preferred Qualifications*** Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts* Public library experience.* Public speaking and training experience.* Ability to design and lead off-site programming or instruction.**Physical Requirements****Hearing/Speaking*** Expressing and receiving information in person and by phone is essential due to regular public and co-worker contact.**Visual Abilities*** Acuity, far – clarity at 20 feet or more (20/25 both eyes; R 20/30, L 20/30 corrected).* Acuity, near – clarity at 20 inches or less (20/25 both eyes corrected).* Depth perception – three-dimensional vision to judge distance and space (rated 4).* Field of vision – ability to see up/down and side-to-side while fixed on a point.* Accommodation – ability to adjust focus for near-point work and multiple simultaneous tasks.**Physical Strength*** Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, and negligible force constantly to carry/move
