Job Summary

Provide support services in the operation and maintenance of an academic or research laboratory to include performing analyses; setup, operation, maintenance and cleaning of equipment; and maintaining stock of supplies. Specific duties will be determined based on assignment and unit needs. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: academic and/or research faculty members, staff and students. This position will advise and counsel: lab users. This position will supervise: NA.

You will be contributing to one or more of the following LuminAI-based projects:

  • LuminAI: This is the “original” version, a five-module pipeline and one-panel design that allows open improvisation with Vai (the agent). Specific work needed is implementing the Body Action Taxonomy within the pipeline.
  • LuminAIx: An ongoing AI literacy installation with three panels that engage learners in public spaces with 1) AI knowledge representation; 2) having a "dance battle" with the improv AI dancer, and 3) learning a bit about how it (and machine learning more broadly) works. You will specifically be working on the implementation of panels one and three.
  • LuminAI at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport: Update the current version of LuminAI to be shown at the Atlanta airport for half a year. Specific work involves designing a LuminAI Lite version that can be optimized and run for eight plus hours a day, as well as collecting data on the installation in public and exploring the possibility of integrating new sensor technology into the agent (femtobolts).
  • LuminAI Duet: A new project focusing on creating two LuminAI installations (potentially one in Atlanta and the other in France or Istanbul) where local users can train the AI on their local dance moves, shared with the AI across seas for users in the other country to dance with an AI that uses the other country\'s dance moves. This project is seen as a form of AI-mediated cultural exchange and has potential for publication and festival submissions.

Responsibilities

  • Setup, operate and maintain instruments and other equipment used in performing lab tests and experiments.
  • Order supplies and materials as required; maintain records.
  • Setup laboratory media/equipment for demonstrations.
  • May clean instruments, glassware and other lab equipment.
  • Prepare and process laboratory samples for use in assigned tests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements: High school diploma, GED Certificate or Vocational School Diploma

Other Required Qualifications: Ability to work outside of typical business hours as needed, potentially including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Required Experience: Up to two years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Unity software experience

Salary

Proposed Salary: We are looking for a candidate who can commit to 20 hours of work per week for $30-/hr

Skills

This job requires working knowledge in the use of instrumentation and other lab equipment, laboratory processes and procedures specific to assigned lab. Skills in inventory management and the use of specialized computer applications is required.
