Adjunct Instructor, Music (Guitar) - UT Southern

The Victoria and Thomas Martin School of Arts and Humanities seeks a part-time, adjunct faculty to teach in the Music program as a guitar instructor. The primary responsibility will be teaching private guitar lessons to music majors and non-majors, with the opportunity to also teach lessons through our Community Music Academy at $40/hour.

Position Overview:

The Guitar instructor will teach primarily applied lessons to both music majors and non-majors as well as to community members of all ages through the Community Music Academy.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach applied guitar lessons to music majors and non-majors.
  • Opportunity to teach additional lessons through the Community Music Academy at $40/hour.
  • Teach music courses according to department needs and instructor expertise.
  • Work with the program coordinator to ensure consistent and appropriate student learning.
  • Utilize the College's learning management system (Canvas) to assess student projects and record grades.
  • Regularly check your email account. Respond to emails/messages in a timely manner.
  • Complete all required reports, such as early grade alerts, midterm grades, and final grades.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Guitar, another Music field with guitar as a primary instrument, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to play in various styles (pop/rock, jazz, classical, etc.)
  • Proven record of quality instruction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching college-level musicians.
  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas.
  • Ability to teach courses in other areas (Music Appreciation, Aural Skills, Music Theory, etc.)
