Job Description

Responsible for providing general circulation information and service to students, faculty, and staff. Processes new library acquisitions and performs tasks using an automated circulation system.

The successful candidate will work primarily on-site, with occasional remote work, for 25 hours per week, with a flexible scheduling option available after the first semester of training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Circulates materials by issuing borrower cards, charging and discharging items, using an automated circulation system.
  • Receives, processes, and maintains the library’s serials collection, which may require lifting, carrying, and pulling/pushing book carts.
  • Assists in training, supervision, and evaluation of student assistant assignments.
  • Assists in guiding workflow and supervising staff library assistants.
  • Assists in the processing of intra-campus loans and interlibrary loans.
  • Assists in the processing and maintenance of reserve materials for faculty and students.
  • Assists in the maintenance and inventory of the library collection.
  • Assists patrons in using library equipment.
  • Maintains area statistics and processes area reports, as directed by supervisor.
  • Accesses, inputs, and retrieves data from a computer.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of needs, concerns, and issues related to policies, services, staff, and resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Preferred experience includes library experience, using computers and related software, database, data entry, and mainframe experience.

Must have knowledge of circulation procedures, automated library circulation systems, reserve material preparation and handling, and the fundamentals of information service in a library. Ability to provide strong customer service, make appropriate referrals, and effectively interpret and explain Learning Resources Center/library policies/procedures to faculty, staff, students, and community.

Working Conditions

This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
