ECS is seeking a Technical Writer to work in our Suitland, MD office. ECS Federal, a rapidly expanding information security and information technology company in Fairfax, VA, is seeking a skilled and experienced Cybersecurity Technical Writer. This full-time, permanent position will support a long-term contract with a US Government civilian agency, focusing on a comprehensive range of cybersecurity services.

The Cybersecurity Technical Writer will be responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining a wide range of cybersecurity documentation. This includes, but is not limited to, policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, security assessments, incident response plans, user manuals, and training materials.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and Maintain Cybersecurity Documentation: Create and update cybersecurity policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures in alignment with industry best practices (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001) and regulatory requirements.
  • Information Gathering and Analysis: Collaborate closely with cybersecurity engineers, architects, analysts, and other SMEs to gather technical information and understand complex concepts.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Translate highly technical information into accessible language for diverse audiences, including technical staff, management, and end-users.
  • Quality Assurance and Standards: Ensure all documentation adheres to established style guides, templates, and branding.

Required Skills include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Communications, English, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in technical writing, with at least 2 years focused on cybersecurity or IT security documentation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of cybersecurity concepts, terminology, and best practices.
  • Proficiency with documentation tools and content management systems.
  • Strong portfolio of technical writing samples demonstrating clarity, accuracy, and adherence to style guides.

Certifications/Licenses: Ability to obtain a Public Trust.

Desired Skills include:

  • Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CySA+, Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC), or similar.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) frameworks and tools.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automating documentation tasks or data extraction.
