What you'll do

Design Director, Denim At Walmart, we help people save money so they can live better. This mission serves as the foundation for every decision we make to create the future of retail, from responsible sourcing to sustainability and everything in between. As a Design Director of Fashion, you will be responsible for creating designs exclusively for Private Brands and develop trend strategies that support the Walmart Apparel Strategic Business Unit (SBU) merchandising goals. You will assure that Walmart's private brand DNA/guidelines, trends, aesthetic/style, quality and value all support the customers’ needs and lead the market.

You will be responsible for setting the brands seasonal fashion direction and align with broader Walmart strategies. You'll help ensure merchant leadership is aligned with the creative direction and assortment.

You'll sweep us off our feet if:

  • You enjoy building and developing private brand design strategy and execution, supporting long term business plans and executing prioritized strategic programs.
  • You understand and know how to build a winning brand aesthetic and DNA/guardrails
  • You are data savvy: you can analyze competition, customer behavior, industry trends, and the macro environment.
  • You are omni channel customer-focused: You make must be able to develop and execute a strategic vision, with a customer-centric approach while understanding customer behavior across channels, or within relevant channels.
  • You are tenacious, dedicated and thrive working with ownership, autonomy, and a healthy dose of competition.

You'll make an impact by:

  • Brand Execution: Oversee all aspects of the brand including brand management, design, merchandising analytics, and storytelling. Lead the design vision, execution and identify of each brand, ensuring the merchant strategy and brand guidelines are followed to ensure a consistent design aesthetic on the floor and online.
  • Merchandising Differentiation and Competitive Advantage: Understanding the competitive landscape of the brand portfolio, determining competitive advantages, and developing a winning strategy.
  • Partnership with Leaders: Partnering with other Senior Leaders to ensure Brand collections and strategy is in alignment with other business unit strategies.
  • Transformative Talent Development: In partnership with People Partner, developing a transformative talent strategy for Teams which clearly identifies the skills, experiences and competencies needed to transform the Design Team and establish the function as an industry leader for the future.
  • Brand Customer Experience and Shopping Habits: Delivering world-class Walmart exclusive brand experiences across all channels by offering private label collections of high-quality, high-value products.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in apparel design, with deep expertise in denim
  • Proven leadership experience managing design teams
  • Strong eye for trend, proportion, fabric, and wash development
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Experience working with global sourcing and vendor networks
  • Ability to balance creativity with business objectives in a high-volume retail environment

Portfolio Required. This role is onsite in our New York office.

The annual salary range for this position is $156,000.00-$312,000.00

Minimum Qualifications... Bachelor’s degree in fashion design, textile design, or related area and 8 years’ experience in apparel design, garment construction, or related area. Or 10 years’ experience in apparel design, garment construction, or related area. 5 years’ supervisory experience.
