Overview
Library Assistant - Mountain View role at Timberland Regional Library District. The Timberland Library seeks a Library Assistant to work at the Mountain View Library. Library Assistants help create a welcoming space for patrons by providing excellent customer service, technology help, checking books in and out, and other general tasks in support of community library operations. This position reports to a Library Supervisor as part of a service-oriented team. This position is located in the South/East Lewis Region and may be scheduled to work in any location within the region.
Responsibilities
- Process, sort, organize, and shelve library materials and assist with maintenance of library collections.
- Perform circulation duties including checking books in/out, processing hold requests, fees for materials, and library card applications.
- Provide customer service to library patrons in-person, by telephone, or electronically; respond to general and reference inquiries and locate library materials; conduct reader advisory interviews as needed.
- Educate and advise patrons in the use of library computers and equipment; provide troubleshooting assistance as required.
- Explain library rules, policies, and procedures; refer patrons to other departments when needed; resolve patron issues.
- Maintain assigned library display areas; perform opening/closing duties and assist with facilities and equipment upkeep.
- Serve as person in charge in the supervisor’s absence; perform clerical duties including data entry, reporting, mail processing, and ordering supplies.
- Assist in monitoring volunteers and community service workers; provide training and guidance as directed by a supervisor.
- Assist with library programs and community outreach as directed; participate in committees and perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
High School diploma or equivalency preferred. Two years of customer service experience, including at least one year in a library setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses, Certifications, and Special Requirements
- Valid Washington State driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Must pass and maintain a criminal background check (per RCW 43.43)
- Ability to work evenings and weekends and adapt to schedule changes on short notice

- Community library operations, programs, and services; commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Technology Requirements
- Windows PC navigation; ability to print
- Navigate and use web functions and software applications (time/attendance systems, online trainings, etc.)
- Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) for job responsibilities
Physical and Environmental Conditions
- Office and library environment with regular public contact
- Occasional lifting up to 40 pounds; ability to push/pull carts
- May travel to other sites to participate in work-related assignments
