Job SummaryResponsible for managing internal operations ofGunter Library. Oversees interlibrary loan, circulation, collection management,and assists faculty, staff, students, and public patrons with research andneeds in a timely and professional manner. In conjunction with the Head ofGunter Library, plans and executes outreach events that support the campus andpublic communities. Assists Head of Gunter Library with the teaching, consulting,and researching needs of the School of Ocean Science and Engineering onmultiple campuses.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree inlibrary and information science or equivalent from an accredited college orUniversity. One year library experience and/or training plus six monthssupervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experiencein a related field.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Preferred QualificationsExperience working in an academic library orspecial library. Knowledge of a foreignlanguage.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages library operations, staff, and student employees, and ensures library collections and resources are well maintained. Prepares and maintains monthly report of activities. Uses SOARFIN to produce budget reports, track expenditures, and reconcile transactions. Interfaces with University Libraries units across all campuses.
- Provides reference service to library users. Provides general orientation to new users and maintains library usage statistics log. Assists with consultations and/or library instruction for the entire School of Ocean Science and Engineering on the Gulf Park, Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, and Stennis campuses. Assists staff, faculty, students, and the public in use of the photocopiers, computers, printers, and other library equipment; checks status of paper, toner, and other supplies; refills equipment as necessary; reports on equipment condition and supplies as needed. Troubleshoots and performs minor repairs of equipment.
- Responsible for overall operations of interlibrary loan; verifies the accuracy of citations for books and articles requested by patrons; searches on-line and manually to identify, locate, and request, photocopy or scan, materials; maintains records of transactions, compiles statistical reports, and maintains copyright compliance records; and manages the workload efficiently to ensure objectives and deadlines are met.
- Uses integrated library system and other tools for circulation, count use, and campus intra-library service. Processes library materials and maintains library databases including reprints and staff publications. Performs electronic and manual documentation of the collection. Assists in collection development and supervises collection maintenance including shelving, shifting, and inventories; removes and returns books, journals, and other library materials to assigned shelf locations; identifies materials in need of repair or cleaning; maintains vertical files, organization files, and office files.
- Trains and supervises summer student assistant, part time workers, interns, and volunteers in a timely, fair, and objective manner. Models professional behavior. Performs other duties as assigned.

- Experience with computer use and Microsoft Office productsto produce complex reports.
- Proficient with library software applications, suchas Alma, Ex Libris, and Springshare.
- Able to prioritize competing responsibilities andperform independently.
- Able to work well with groups and collaborateeffectively.
- Knowledge of Library of Congress call number system.
- Knowledge of copyright laws.
