Senior Mechanical Designer - System One About the Role

System One is seeking a highly motivated and resourceful Senior Mechanical Designer to help design vital reactor core components, reactor structures, and Nuclear Island assemblies for the Natrium Generation IV Reactor. You will work with a collaborative team of engineers and scientists developing next Generation advanced nuclear reactor designs. Your focus will be on both preliminary and detailed design, ensuring manufacturability, safety, and adherence to nuclear industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Translate input from the Engineering and Project teams into equipment and component design solutions

Perform tolerance stack ups using GD&T to verify fit, function, and manufacturability

Create detailed engineering models, drawings, and associated specifications & test documentation

Interface with engineering analysis teams for structural, thermal, and other simulations

Present design work for reviews and ensure designs meet requirements and quality benchmarks

Mentor junior designers and coordinate work with subcontractors, particularly in CAD and CAD data/PDM workflows

Support continuous improvement and adopt best practices in nuclear design standards and governance

What You'll Bring

Minimum 10 years of experience designing mechanical equipment or components, preferably in the nuclear sector or similarly regulated industries

Strong proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD systems; experience with CAD data management (such as PDM) is preferred

Deep understanding of GD&T and experience performing tolerance stack ups

Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles

Excellent analytical skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision

Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to clearly document design decisions and technical specifications

High integrity, with a collaborative mindset and ability to work well in a cross functional, high stakes environment

Nice to Have

Experience in the nuclear industry with core assemblies (fuel, control, neutron source, etc.)

Experience producing engineering specifications and test plans

Prior exposure to structural or thermal expansion design issues
