The City of Bucyrus, Ohio is currently looking to hire a part-time/full-time Police Communication Operator/Dispatcher.

Starting $23.42 hourly to $28.50 hourly top salary under current scale. Lateral transfers rate determined based on experience.

Bucyrus is a small town in the middle of everywhere and we are seeking candidates with a strong desire to enter into and excel in emergency public safety dispatch communications profession emphasizing courtesy and integrity. We respond to about 12,000 calls per year. We collaborate with local organizations and projects such as Neighborhood Watch, METRICH, and Safety Town, among others.

Job Requirements High School Grad/GED:

Examples of Duties include but not limited to:
Receives and monitors telephone calls and other messages requiring police, fire and/or service department action, and transmits calls for service to appropriate law enforcement, fire/medical emergency and/or service personnel.
Operates radio communication equipment.
Uses standard operating procedures to send and receive radio and telephone messages.
Receives and handles emergency or service calls by dispatching appropriate unit (s) to handle emergencies and/or service and may assist the caller with pre-arrival instructions.
Assists in a variety of clerical duties, which may include typing, and/or maintenance of police records.
Makes calls to assist officers in investigating statements made by subjects being questioned, or to assist officers in investigating other situations.
Operates equipment to enter data, to receive data, and to use data to advise police personnel as to whether vehicles and/or subjects are wanted for any reason(s).
Answers telephone inquiries regarding reporting of crimes, and/or division policies or procedures in reporting or handling them.
Monitors alarm panels.
Performs Deputy Clerk of Court procedures involving setting and taking bonds and accepting payment of citations.
Controls access to the Communications Unit.
Participates in required training courses.
Monitors video security equipment.
Female Communications Operators perform matron duties in the absence of a female Police Officer.
Operates Law Enforcement Automated Data Systems (LEADS) equipment.
Serves as Terminal Agency Coordinator (T.A.C.) as designated.
Uses a computer-aided dispatching system to assist in determining closest police/fire response.
Contacts designated wrecker services as directed by officers.
Supplemental Information:
Ability to transmit information verbally in a clear, concise, and accurate manner.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties and responsibilities.
Ability to respond to emergency calls in an appropriate, effective, efficient, and calm manner.
Other Requirements:
Regular and punctual attendance is regarded as an essential requirement of this classification.
Compliance with training directives established by supervisory/managerial personnel.
Be willing and flexible to work different shifts (including weekends and holidays) for 24hour operations.
Adherence to all applicable Federal and State safety laws, rules, and regulations and City safety policies/procedures.
Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors:
Background must be free of prior felony convictions. Other disqualifiers/behaviors to be determined by the Chief, or designee.
Probationary Period:
Full-time Dispatcher one-year, Part-Time Dispatchers one year.
