We looking to hire four (4) motivated, self-directed, customer service focused, and highly dedicated individuals with strong communication and interpersonal skills to join our team as
Temporary Part Time Library Assistants
at the Clackamas County Library for Oak Lodge & Gladstone branches. These positions are on-call and hours per week will fluctuate.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing direct customer service and performing circulation-related tasks, including checking materials in and out and assisting patrons with their accounts. Helping patrons navigate library resources, including the online catalog and classification system, and offering guidance on library services and materials. Processing library transactions such as checking books out, issuing new library cards, accepting and collecting fines, and responding to basic reference inquiries. Assisting with the processing and organization of new materials, including books, periodicals, and other printed resources; shelving items; and supporting the implementation of circulation procedures. Offering input on material selection and maintaining accurate records in the library's online system, as well as managing files and clerical documentation. Preparing items for mailing or courier pickup, maintaining cleanliness and organization within library spaces, and opening or closing deposit site locations. Oak Lodge and Gladstone Libraries are a part of the Department of Transportation & Development (DTD) under Community Services. We are committed to providing direct public library services to the Oak Lodge and Gladstone communities within the LINCC consortium. We are searching for an individual who is motivated to contribute to a team with a strong focus on quality library services, innovative outreach, programming, and who can demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
A minimum of three (3) years of related experience providing direct customer service to the public Experience working in a public library environment Knowledge of library methods, procedures, practices and terminology Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
Experience interpreting and applying rules and standards of the County library system and the consortium Experience using the Dewey Decimal classification system Experience using the Symphony library software system Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook Bilingual skills (Spanish or Russian) Pre-Employment Requirements:
Must pass a criminal history check which may include national or state fingerprint records check Must pass a post-offer physical assessment; accommodation requests will be reviewed on an individual bases in compliance with State and Federal legislation. Driving is required for County business on a regular basis or to accomplish work. WORKING CONDITIONS
Duties require continuous walking/moving, standing for extended periods, frequent squatting, kneeling, bending, twisting, reaching forward and overhead, fine motor control, and the ability to lift 35 pounds, lift and carry 20 pounds, overhead reach 5 pounds, and push/pull 20 pounds. Duties also involve exposure to dust and odors/fumes including strong perfumes.
WORK SCHEDULE
Currently, the libraries are open Monday-Saturday and are closed on Sundays. Saturday and evening availability is required. This position is on-call and does not have a regularly set schedule. Specific details about the schedule will be discussed with the candidate selected for the position at the time an offer of employment is extended.
Please Note: This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.
