Job Description
The Syracuse University Marketing Division is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and systems- and process-minded Multimedia Operations Manager to join our creative teams. This role will help lead resource planning, work balancing and assignments, workflow optimization, digital asset management (DAM) administration, equipment management, and vendor relationships. The role partners across the Division to ensure resources are properly mapped to assignments. With the strategic ability to project and plan for resource needs, this individual coordinates with the Director of Multimedia and the Multimedia Coordinator to ensure the right photography resource is mapped to the right project at the right time to deliver the right results.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree, preferred majors: Visual Arts/Photography, Library Science, Archive Management or Information Systems, or directly applicable work experience.
- 3-5 years of marketing and brand stewardship, digital asset management, design, project management or related business experience; 3-5 years in photography ideal.
- 2-4 years leading or managing complex teams.
- Design skills within Adobe Creative Suite a plus.
- Digital Asset Management Certification is preferred but not required.
Job Specific Qualifications
- Thoughtful, experienced leader with digital, photography and technical expertise in leading dynamic creative teams.
- Organized and strategic in workload projection and work balancing.
- Analytical in determining photography assignments.
- Experience in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Bridge, and Lightroom; MS Office and web browser applications.
- Ability to manage a high volume of team assignments with nimbleness and agility.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills; ability to adapt quickly to changing technology, systems and processes.
- Mac/PC savvy including proficiency with major applications and current multimedia file types.
- Rights management experience is a plus (model usage cataloguing, restrictions, timing, distribution).
- Working knowledge of metadata management or database usability; familiarity with production workflows (video, print, digital, social).
- Strong knowledge of DAM systems, metadata taxonomy, copyright and rights management concepts for assets and digital content.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment; strong organizational skills and attention to detail; knowledge of creative file types; project management skills.
Responsibilities
Team & Workflow Management
- Support planning, coordination and assignment of photography and occasional video shoots, managing timelines, logistics, and budgets alongside production teams.
- Partner with other leaders to ensure workload planning, assignment distribution and workflow efficiency.
- Communicate with diverse teams and stakeholders to translate strategic needs into logistical plans for photographers to capture content.
- Collaborate across divisional teams on asset capture, tagging and lifecycle best practices.
- Evaluate workload and workflow to optimize resource planning and project delivery.
- Identify opportunities to streamline systems and processes; implement workflow improvements with multimedia leaders and photographers.
- Empower team members to art direct and manage shoots, often in collaboration with art directors and producers.
- Align with brand strategy to ensure consistent and compelling brand expression; provide the photographers with necessary information to capture content.
Asset Management
- Establish DAM best practices across marketing departments within the Marketing Division; implement DAM practices in a fast-paced university environment.
- Maintain and update photography packages annually; work with photographers to package and deliver content to marketing leads or campus partners.
- Act as system librarian lead; improve metadata practices and conduct regular audits, archiving, and system cleanup; gather metrics and user feedback to improve systems, processes and training.
- Develop workflows for asset ingestion, categorization, permissions, version control, delivery, and expiration to internal and external users.
- Ensure user-friendly functionality and ease of use; distribute images to partners and maintain photography packages.
- Collaborate with the digital team to ensure photography is readily available for sharing on flagship digital channels.
Other Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Director of Marketing Technology to leverage modern technology solutions; use Workfront for project tracking to streamline workflows and flag roadblocks.
- Ensure systems support digitizing, archiving and logging of multimedia content for searchability and maintenance.
- Track impact/engagement measures to guide creative decision making.
- Lead equipment cataloging and inventory processes, including check-in/out and upkeep.
- Contribute to a best-in-class creative culture; mentor talent and support career growth.
