Overview

Library Information and Reserves Specialist at University of New Hampshire. This is a full-time, benefited position (37.5 hours/week, typically Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.) with some flexibility for remote work. USNH Employees should apply within Workday through the Jobs Hub app.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provide information and circulation assistance at the library’s information desk under general direction from the Information Services Program Lead, working closely with program colleagues.
  • Oversee daily information desk operations and the Course Reserve Service, both in person and virtually; direct patrons to appropriate resources or services; supervise and assist adjunct and student employees.
  • Manage all aspects of course reserve services: create records and build lists, process digital materials, guide reserve billing, maintain statistics, and respond to reserve inquiries across multiple channels.
  • Provide training and work direction to adjunct and student employees, including performance feedback and on-the-job training opportunities.
  • Gather and provide statistical data to inform service changes and recommendations; serve as the primary instructor liaison for Course Reserve lists, materials, and questions.
  • Act as the point of contact between the Library and the UNH community for virtual outreach initiatives and manage virtual outreach programming.
  • Demonstrate diplomatic communication skills in handling non-routine situations and negotiate potential conflicts between library policy and patron preferences.
  • With direction from the Facilities Program Lead, contribute to an inclusive environment conducive to research and study; support safety and security of patrons and materials.
  • May participate in environmental scans of other academic libraries to improve UNH Library facilities, policies, and services; may be responsible for library opening/closing and emergencies.
  • Coordinate cross-over functions of the Materials Management Program affecting the Information Services Program and patron community; train and supervise Materials Management Program student employees.
  • Gather and provide statistical data to support service or operational changes as needed.
  • Under the Digital Services and IT Program Lead, create and maintain trainings and resources related to Open Educational Resources (OER) to facilitate OER discovery and adoption; assist faculty with OER usage; ensure copyright compliance for items scanned for electronic reserve; administer library SpringShare products (LibGuides, LibAnswers) including user accounts and feature management with IT support.
  • Collaborate across the organization to achieve library and campus-wide goals.

Note: The duties listed are not all-inclusive; other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Associate’s degree with three years of related work experience, or any combination of higher education and related work experience equal to five years.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience providing the necessary knowledge and skills for the role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Commitment to serving diverse communities and experiences in information services.
  • Understanding of processes, policies, and protocols in academic research libraries.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues independently or with guidance; prior experience in a similar role (course reserves, training, keyholding, opening/closing).
  • Experience using a Library Services Platform (LSP) such as Ex Libris Alma.
